ok...so ya put my car back to stock...put the stock stereo in...and fog lights and stuff...

well...at first my stereo would turn on (but not produce sound) that was strange and I couldn't figure out why...all the wires and harnesses were hooked up...it also wouldn't raise the power antenna...couldn't figure out why...everything was pluged in...now, it doesn't even turn on...so I think I blew a fuse...but I can't find a fuse I could have blown...the "radio" one under the hood is fine...

also, my fog lights don't turn on...they are plugged in but don't turn on...another thing that isn't working is my intake temp gauge..but the other gauges are working...

anyway...I'm thinking I may have blown a fuse that is related to these things...all the other gauges work including the ones on the dash...normal lights work, all dash lights work and stuff, but the stuff I mentioned doesn't...

I'm worried though that even after I figure out why the stereo isn't getting power, I'll continue to have the problem of no sound...

One thing to check is the plug on the power amp under the passenger seat. It tends to come off on my 99GST.

There is another fuse for the amplifier. It is #1 (upper left 15amp) in the fuse box by the driver's left leg. The radio also has a DIN cable that must be connected to the amplifier. And make sure you have a good ground connection on radio and all the speaker and radio wires were put back (sometimes after market radios have some cut).

The fog lights only can come on with headlight low beam. They also have an inside fuse (left end of middle row) and a relay (2nd from right in middle row in engine fuse/relay box).

ohh ya...thats right...its been so long since I had my fog lights...about a year now...cause when I got the front mount I took them out...now I remember that low beems need to be on...duh

ok, so I'm sure they work...now ya, I also have that DIN cable and its pluged in, and all the wires are fine

I installed my radio and I used a seperate harness piece to splice everything...now I just pulled that thing off completly and put the original harness back in

I'm 95% sure that that amp fuse is fine...I've been checking all my fuses lately and that one is good and the "radio" one under the hood also looks good...I just think its weird cause right now its not even turning on.

I'll have to check the ground...but I ask you, do you have any idea where the ground wire goes? it goes into that big loom and through the firewall into the engine bay...if you know where it goes that would be cool...because I'm also having a no start problem, which I believe to be a bad ECU ground (but for it, its wire is spliced...)

Possibility #1) The factory amp is designed only for the factory radio. If you put an after market radio in and did not unplug EVERYTHING from the amp, you have risked damaging the amp. This is because all speaker wires go to both the factory radio plug AND the factory amp plug. So if you just spliced into the speaker wires with a different radio, you would be incorrectly driving the outputs from the amp along with the speakers. Even a different harness would not help unless you cut the wires that go to the amp or you ran seperate wires all the way to each speaker (and disconnect the old ones). Did your after market radio use the factory amp or use it's own amp and drive the speakers directly? You said you had a different harness for the radio. Where did it connect to the speakers? If after you put everything back to factory stuff and the radio ever produced sound at all, this scenerio is probably not the problem. I'm just listing it as a possibility.

Possibility #2) There are more fuses that go to the radio in the fuse box by the driver's left leg. They are #5, 11, 12.

Possibility #3) You may have tripped the radio anti-theft system and have to input it's security code to get the radio to turn on. This sounds like a strong possibility.

As for the radio ground, it is in the harness connector. What is the start problem? What happens when you turn the key?

I don't believe I had the Amp plugged in when I had the aftermarket stereo in...actually I know I didn't...I took it compeltely out and it sat it a box for the past year...it may have been plugged in for a short while at the begining before I put the "system" in...but it wasn't in long...I actually don't even know if it was plugged in at all...could I run the speakers with it completely out...hmm I'll have to try that too none of the amp stuff pluged in to the stereo or the amp...but first my stereo needs power

The fuses in the fuse box I'll have to check...I did blow the 100A altnernator fuse when charging the battery...stupid thing I accidently grounded the power wire for a second...like it just bumped some metal and sparked all over and blew that fuse...thats when everything stopped working...I kinda shoulda mentioned that in the first place huh...OMG

but its not the security code...because it will ask for that once it gets power...right now, it won't even turn on...when it was turning on but not producing sound, it would ask for the security code, I would enter it...then it wouldn't play sound...

I'll have to check those other fuses again...

Heres the whole no start issue...I don't understand it, and yes the battery has a full charge...and the engine does crank

I'm now confused - you do or you don't have the factory amp hooked up? And you just put the factory radio and factory harness back in - correct? And no power whats so ever to the radio? No display, not even any radio lights when you turn on the headlights? And you have the Infinity radio with cd and cassette?

currently, the amplifier is hooked up...I'm not getting ANY power any more...no lights no nothing...and yes it is the Infinity with Cassette and CD.

However...it did work for a short while...there was just no sound.

Did you blow the 100 amp fuse before all this radio with no sound situation? What else happened or did you do between radio with no sound and radio with no power at all? Any other electrical things not working? Answer back after you checked those other fuses. And do you have a voltmeter?

First the stereo turned on but no sound...then I blew the fuse...then the radio didn't run on at all...as far as I know everything else electrical works...lights work, fans work, windows move up and down...alternator works, battery is charged

not sure if the ECU has power, as it is a suspect for the no start...but I believe it does, because I get fuel and spark...it just may be that the ECU is messed up and isn't providing the right timing...

no I don't have a voltmeter...and I'll check those fuses when I get home today...

As far as anything else happening or me doing anything else...I don't think I did anything else...at first the radio turned on...then I blew that fuse and got a new one...after I got the new one and put the keys in and turned to on...radio no longer turned on...

Right now the radio is out I was just insepecting it looking to see if there was a fuse on the back of it (like aftermarket ones) and to see if there is anything obviously worng with it that can be seen externally...but there isn't...

So ya, I'll check those fuses, hook it back up...and get back to ya.

Again, thanx for all you help, I really appriciate it...

i am having a problem like it. It happened with i took out my ecu. I put it back in and my stero wont turn on the inside dome lights wont turn on the light where you stick the key wont come on and the light for the glove box wont turn on. I have check every fuse under the hood and in the box in the car they are all good. I even replaced the fuse for the radio and lights and it still work work. I am stumped as to what is wrong. I have take the ecu out again and moved the wires thinking maybe a short but still nothing.

I don't know about the '90 but my '99 has a light fader device (the ETACS-ECU) that controls the dome and foot lights which would be suspect in your case (only for those items - not the radio) if you have it - I suspect they didn't have a light fader back then however.

ok...checked all fuses AGAIN...not sure what you meant by 5,11,12...but I checked all the driver kick panel fuses and underhood fuses...all look fine

pluged stereo back in and it still doesn't even turn on...all the wires appear fine.

And either Defiant has a different stock radio then me...or he's on crack...or I don't know what he means by tail.

Because I looked all over my radio, in the back in the little holes on the back and sides...there is not a fuse on it

I'm at a loss as to why it wont turn on...I assume a bad ground now...but where is the ground? I wonder if it is possible I destroyed it when I blew that other fuse? but I don't understand why...

The 5,11,12 are just the fuse numbers in the kick panel box. The radio won't produce sound without the amp connected and working but it should have it's panel light and channel numbers working. You could try temporarily touching a wire from the radio chassis to the car frame to see if that provides a working ground (book shows that is how ground is done - not thru connector as I had thought earlier).

If that doesn't work you will have to get a voltmeter (borrow one or buy a $10 cheapie at Radio Shack, auto store, or Walmart) to check if there's +12 volts on pins 4(green/white wire), 10(blue wire), and 11(red wire) of the radio's connector when the key is on. Connect the negative of the voltmeter to ground (car frame) and the positive to a straight pin which you can push thru the insulation of each wire to test or pull the radio connector off and insert into the connector's pin of the wire.

When you turn headlights on does any buttons light up on radio (might have to adjust dimmer)?
