animegame eh?

Jokes aside, that was a fairly enlightening read even though no real conclusion can be had. I might give Valvoline durablend a shot. From whats the tests indicate, that oil is plenty cheap enough compared to Mobil 1 and apparently works much better as far as saving my engine's life.

Do you know what year this test was done? I'd wager 2004 just since thats the year they tossed around a few times in the tables, but some of the ads look like they're for newer cars?

The document was created in February of 2006.

Interesting info though, would have liked to see some more oils tested.

I have always used royal purple and it seems that they do the best. Money well spent I would say.

Where was this magazine printed? those are outrageous prices for oil, the cheapest being 5 bucks a quart to 30$+ a quart for the expensive ones? i thought paying 5-6 bucks per quart of full synthetic oil was bad, I'm definately not going to that country for oil.

Bob doesn't really use the brands like the other ad does. I understand your point in saying it is a test on a bearing that is unlike any in our engine, but it is a test among brand oils. I would like to see a real test for these same brands. I use Royal Purple myself and its never made me sad.

True enough, but it's rather like testing the oils in a cake mix. You simply do not have that kind of bearing interaction going on in a car. It's an ersatz test by its very nature.

That's what the API ratings are for, earned once an oil has passed its real-engine tests.

Nor has the "horrid" Pennzoil ever made me sad, nor allowed an engine under my foot to damage itself. You cannot run an engine hard enough in the street world to bring lubrication failure to it, so long as the supply is reasonably fresh and uninterrupted and the bearings are within specs.
The bearing-rubbing is an interesting experiment, but it has nothing to do with showing how well a given lubricant will work in an automotive engine. It only shows how well a given oil performed in that test..... which is of suspect repeatability.

Pennzoil Platinum is showing to be an excellent Synthetic oil, and is often compared to Mobil 1 over on BITOG. It's what I have been running the last couple years.
