$350!!!! GOOD LORD MAN!!:nono:

Shop around, go to progressive just to use their system for other companies. Im guessing that its gonna be a loan and you need full coverage. Also if you have good credit, which is nearly impossible at 16, your rates with the insurance companies will go down quite a bit.

Not to be a parent or anything, look at the long term commitment you are making. In 2 years, if your like any other kid, your going to want to move out. Maybe buy a 1g with cash and go for just liability insurance?

Heh. I've been paying $130 for six months on my '90 GSX. Sure it's older... and I am too, but $350 for ONE MONTH is outright ridiculous.

Also, the insurance on my Mirage ($110 for six months) has been the same since I was 18.

im 19 and own 2 cars, a metro and a fiero. i have 2 speeding tickets and a bogus hit and run on my record. i have geico and with those 2 cars every 6 months i pay 700, which is awsome considering my record. geico is an awsome company and does all it can to get you every discount they can. and id say a 2 seater mid engine car will have a higher premium than a gsx.

Like it was said before try to put one of your parents on your car and put you on one of theirs. That should get it down some.

Well...You gotta remember guys Im 16 and Im gonna be driving a 98 GSX. I am on my parents plan right now. If I were to do it seperately, It would be through the roof. I dont have a choice to switch insurance companies, since thats the company my parents use. Plus, since Im taking out a loan, I need to add Collision to the insurance policy, which makes it go from $290 to $350. Today I went to State Farm, and thats what they gave me, and thats what its gonna be...oh well I guess.

16, 2g gsx, loan, state farm.

are you crazy?

*man I should have cleared all of this up...LOL*

My parents are taking out a loan for me...and Ill make the payments. Yes a 98 GSX, and Im 16, turning 17 the 21st of this month. State Farm blows ______.

When i was 18 and first got my 91 TSi AWD, I was paying $150 a month for liability only. When I turned 19, it went down to $139.

Check for a good student discount, I have to keep like a B ave. grade and it lowered like $100 (so my mother told me when i didnt turn it in)(plus im under my parents, under a local company) You just have to send in a copy of your report card and you might be able to get something.....good luck though:thumb:

HA, back in highschool I just had to tell them what my grades where. Made it so easy I forgot to suggest that.

Yes I have a GOOD DRIVER discount, GOOD STUDENT discount, no tickets or anything, and its still $350. O well...Im getting one of my dream cars...thats all that matters to me!

Keep shopping. MAYBE you'll find a cheap local company who'll give you full coverage for the car being under your name (and your parents, since you can't own a car in Florida until you are 18), for a price that is cheaper than it being $350 a month on your parent's insurance. There is no law that states that one person cannot have one cars with one insurance company and another car with another cheaper insurance company. Find a yellow pages and give every company you never heard of in your area, a call and ask for a quote for you and one of your parents together on the same policy.

Has anyone bought insurance online from companies such as esurance. I always see their commericals about how they offer such good rates but I just can't see how helpful a website is going to be in the event you damage your car.

i got progressive insurance on the 4th of jul. and i hadd it through esurance before. they just find a company that will give u the best rates. its worked well i have not had to use myy insurance (thank god)

I got quotes from Progressive, State Farm, Allstate, and eSurance.com and believe it or not State Farm was the lowest, for me, 20yrs old and no tickets in the past was $51.21/month. Progressive wanted $100+/month, so i went with State Farm. Plus i get a discount now with them next month for adding my Dakota on there as well.

I use esurance and pay around $66 a month for my Galant VR-4. No accidents and one speeding ticket in the last 18 months. They were responsive when I was setting up my policy and their online quotes always seem to be higher than what you actually pay. I don't have full coverage on the Galant because I would be lucky to get more than $2000 back from any insurance company if it was wrecked so it isn't worth it to me. I actually have money set aside specifically for purchasing another Galant if anything ever happens to this one.

Just got my bill from State Farm. My car, only liability, is $28/mo!!!! What are you guys paying, and what type of coverage, and what insurance company??

This has been covered a gazillion times and only leads to people arguing. It depends on WAY too many things including age, your location, your driving record, your deductibles etc etc etc.

Why don't you have comprehensive? You know if a tree falls on your car or it gets stolen you get ZERO dollars without comp...

Comp is a very marginal addition. Should only cost you $5-10 more a month.
