ok so i finally installed my injectors today... i didnt do the fuel pump cus i have a full tank of gas and ill just wait for it to go down to a 1/4..... but i always been at 14 pounds of boost on my evoIII now that i have the injectors can i raise it to 16? or more? i know i need to install the fuelpump which i will be doing soon... but till then i just wanted to know what psi i can be at... running rich now =) :p

dont touch the boost. your pump still cant flow enuff fuel to equal the air your turbo will move.

ok thanks for the reply... i do understand what you mean but as far as i know... my air/fuel gauge is reading rich alot more when im at wide open throttle then before with the stock injectors at wide open throttle. obviously my car is getting more fuel... so cant i just up the boost to give it more air to even the air fuel ratio?

sorry if that didnt make sense. Just trying to understand.. thanks again

your AF gugae prolly isnt right anyways, you need a logger to look at your O2s, or a wideband. Dont up it until you
a. rewire the fuel pump
b. put your fuel pump in

im sure your injectors are already maxed out

I'm guessing that you don't have a logger or any way of controlling those injectors yet, so those two things should definitely be next on your list of mods. As for maxing your IDCs on an evo 3 at 14 psi with 550cc injectors , that is unlikely. These are plenty of people running 14 or 15 psi on evo 3's with stock fuel systems who have no problems, meaning you will definitely not be at 100% IDC unless some outside factor is causing it.

By no means am I suggesting you crank up the boost, but you would be safe to run at 15 or 16 psi supposing you don't have any massive spikes.

i hear ya.... i dont have a logger... i was going to put my fuel pump in and my safcII then get it tunned and dynoed... but what does the abbreviation idc mean? thanks

idc= Injector duty cycle. Don't even drive the car until at least the logger and afc are installed unless you put the 450s back.

yea, if you have nothing to compinsate for those 550cc injectors you shouldnt be driving the car... the car thinks its still got 450cc injectors which is why its so rich, although your narrowband air fuel ratio gauge is probably wrong anyways....just because you got bigger injectors doesnt mean you can turn up the boost, the stock pump is what mostly limits our fuel system to begin with...it would be helpful if we knew which pump your putting in (i hope its either a) not a 255 or a 290 supra, or b) you have an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator) im assuming since you got 550 cc injectors its just a 190...

yeah i have the walbro 190... i have it in my toolbox at work along with the safcII... about driving my car... i have to... cus i have no other choice... i need to use the gas so i can then install the 190 pump

The fuel pump is the least of your problems, more importantly are the safc and logger.

Install the SAFC first.
Right now you are running very rich because of the larger injectors without any correction but keep in mind that your AF guage is going to read rich at WOT even after installing the SAFC and tuning the car and it should be.

Steve

yeah so most likely tomorrow (tues) or maybe wed i will be installing the 190 fuel pump and my safcII... then i will make an appointment to get it dynoed and tuned at turbotrix...

Unless you are really attached to that A/F gage, and you like the lights and stuff, I would remove it and try selling it for some money to put towards a logger that will actually help you determine what is going on with your car. A/F gage is not a very good investment in tunning, you need the logger so you know what adjustments need to be made.

i dont need a logger if im going to get it tuned and dynoed at a shop right? or do i still need one? i thought a logger was if i wanted to tune it myself... thanks

WTF... I was gunna get an EVOIII and 550cc Injectors along with an SAFC...I already have a 190 walbro. Once I got the parts I was just gunna get it tuned. After that I didtn think I was gunna need a logger. mmmm Im confused now...some please help us both in on whats up.

hey im pretty sure we dont need a logger but i just wanted to double check... cause tomorrow i will be putting in my 190 fp and my safcII in the morning

You don't "need" a logger but you'll be pretty clueless without one.

Steve

how will i be clueless? if i dont need one when i get it dynoed and tuned. they will set it for me and when i leave the shop my car will be tuned, therefor i will have no need to touch or tune anything myself

Why not then set your boost level and remove your boost gauge? A logger is as much a monitoring tool as a tuning tool.

Ask around how much engine tunes change with the weather, gas, etc if you really think you done after you leave the shop.

How will you know that you have a good tune?
How will you know when you develop a boost leak?
How will you know if your timing is being pulled from knock?
What will you do when your SAFC decides to lose it's settings, how will you get back to the shop to have your car retuned?
What will you do when your CEL comes on?

That's what I mean by clueless, a datalogger is one of the most useful gauges you can put in your dash. Without it you don't have a very good idea what your car is up to.

Steve

Also note that you can probably get the palm and logger for less than you will pay for tuning in the first year. After that it is all gravy.

did you put the 450's back in? Did you install the SAFC?
