Hi,

A week ago I noticed that I was leaking some transmission fluid. I didn't have time, so I asked a mechanic friend who said it looks like it is the Input shaft seal that is bad.

So he dropped my tranny and took apart the housing and he can't figure out how to get the seal out... I don't even think he could see it.

So he called me since he took it over to his place and told me that I might have to buy a whole new input shaft bearing?? Since he doesn't know how to take it out should I just bring it to Mitsubishi and pay them to take the seal out or should I buy a new one like my friend mentioned??

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

can you get a pic? are you sure its not the cv shaft seal in the trans they just pry out and pop back in

Here is a pic I found, which is basically how my tranny housing looked. However, i can't find a pic of the apart bell housing that shows the input shaft... anyone know if it is easy to get to the seal or I have to buy a new input shaft??

I know this is an old post and the OP has already figured out the problem i'm sure, this is info for anyone who has a similar problem. *If it is the input shaft seal leaking (which in the above picture it is), you would need to take the trans case completely apart and replace the seal from inside the case which at the very least requires some new parts like (nuts, roll pins). quite a bit of work is required to do this and since everythings already out of the case might as well rebuild it. Unless you have speciality tools and knowledge, take it to a trans shop or send it to a vendor before you tear it apart.
