im trying to pick out the right intake for my 99gsx, i should get the one with the dump tube, correct? since running the BOV to atmosphere messes something up??

also what website sells the injen the CHEAPEST? :)

thanks!

I have the injen intake with no tube. I vent to the atmosphere. There are knowledge extremists who insist that this is a bad idea, but it has absolutely no effect on my car. Supposedly for about half a second the engine will run a little rich while your foot is off the gas anyway, but it's not even noticable.

I bought my Injen Short Ram IS from Hopupracing.com a few months ago when they were having an Injen sale. I bought it for 223.xx with shipping. I don't think that they are on sale anymore, but they always did carry the lowest price on them before and they price match to the best of their ability. Buy the one with the "stock BOV return". I got the black one because I am not a fan of polished bling bling. :thumb: The sound is great as the air hits the metal intake pipe. Looks like the sale is still going on so GET ONE NOW!!!

I do not have an injen intake, but I will comment on recirculating. DO IT! There is no GOOD reason not to recirculate and make your car happy. -matt

I'd probably have to recommend the one i got (the bov tube). Its great and i'd recommend recirculating your BOV. I paid $134 for mine with the air filter. I recirculate because, well, people say you should.. haha and i'm running rich as it is so i dont want to add to it.

on a side note: Catbox_95- i absolutely love your car. It just looks so clean and i really love the color. haha i just felt like i had to let you know. I just love it.

rich condition = power lost. Even if your ass dyno doesn't notice it.

Get the dump tube.

thanks every1... actually i went through ptwhatever site and got an aditional 5% off from the 223$ so it was only 212.75 :)

and i went with recirculation, thanks all !!

ill have to get some pics up when its done since i havnt taken any yet. im not crazy about the color of my car (green) but it only had 15k miles, so ill get it painted adventually

These intake pipes are dyno proven for zero power gains, I suggest you buy a 14b instead.

so the stock plastic shlt is the same as the metal piping? hmmm i thought there was like a 5 HP gain.

Nope. Dyno proven to be exactly the same.

You guys dropping 200+ dollars on dumb shit like this are insane. Close the hood and the car's exactly the same powerwise. Unreal. You really should just donate that money to charity or something.

I agree, I have this injen intake also. It was my first mod and I bought it when I didnt know any better. There is a huge difference soundwise. The turbo spools louder and the bov is louder. As for performance.... there wasnt much if none at all. If your bent on having a non rubber intake pipe.. get a dejon one, at least those are half the price of the injen pipes.

And when shifting?

I'll stick with the way I KNOW isn't going to cause any problems.

i would find it hard to believe that the stock rubber neck is as good as a strait pipe. but then again who cares... intake never gives alot of HP. it lloks nice, and makes everything sound better + i would think the throttle response is slightly better

I agree. It might not give too much hp increase, but every little bit counts. 2 here, 3 there, etc. Seeing that stock accordian-style intake piping, I'd say it would have to have at least SOME benefit, and if nothing else, it looks way better. Maybe look for a used one or something. I accidentally found mine for $40 cash and the guy even installed it for me.

thinking logically now........

the turbo can only suck in as much air as it needs. now sucking in air and blowing it are 2 different strokes. if youre sucking it in, its gonna come to the source no matter whats in the path, be it accordian plastic piece or smooth metal piece, the air is gonna get to the turbo. notr blowing is then smoothness counts, cause you dont want to disrupt the flow.

ok think of it as the part of a river before the waterfall, the waterfall, and after the waterfall. the waterfall is the turbo. no matter what, the water is going to get to the falls. a couple rocks in its path are going to have no effect on it whatsoever. but after the water hits the waterfall, its going to smoothen out and create a nice stream.

in essence, that flashy injen intake is just as useful as a turbo timer as far as performance goes. it might look good when you pop the hood, but when the light turns green, it makes no difference. especialy on a turbo, when throttle responce coincides directly with spoolup.

The turbo needs to PULL air before it can PUSH air. So the pulling part is also important. A closer to accurate analogy other than your river analogy would be sucking through a straw. If you wanted to suck as much water through a straw as possible, would it be beneficial to have a smooth straw or one that had accordial-like obstructions through it?

Smooth.

I'm not saying it will help immensely, but it MAY help just a tiny bit.
