Inexpensive FMIC option?

Dude, I seriously belive in you get what you pay for, in most cases. This is one of them. I doubt the product you will get will look half like that, but if it does, the BOV flange looks like it is rotated 90* on the pipe, usually the BOV sits on top of the pipe which would be on the same side as the slight bend in that pipe, but even if you put it on the side they chose the wrong side. Looks like it would hit your cruise control or fuse box. Plus the huge 90* bend would not work since front motor mount the cross brace would go where that looks like it is intended to go. The core is probally cut up junk since the kit is going for so cheap. Last, the last sentence after the first picture where it describes what you get makes no sense. high end rubbers? Come on! It seriously appears that someone bought this thing then decided it would not work then they decided to Ebay to another poor soul. I say save your money for something better, so be it used FMIC from a fellow DSMer. The motto, mod cheap mod twice, was created for a reason. Dont be taken as bait to a inferior product that could cause more headaches then good.

This is X-S Power's = SS AutoChrome's eBay Store so should be a production kit. They've sold thousands of FMIC cores (many threads on this site alone if you wanted to search).

Even if you have to "tweek" a couple things (which most FMIC kits need) a decent core (one with internal turbulators) + polished SS Bends ($40/ea) + couplers for that price is very appealing. Not to say that this would perform as well as a named-brand, but it sure would beat the stock SMIC hands down.

BTW.. THIS kit for the RX-7 got feedback stating it was a perfect fit so the DSM version may be a good deal  :dsm:

Check these guys out

I would say that it pretty affordable for a full fmic kit and they are supposed to be very high quality. They give you different options like bar and plate or tube and fin or even a hybrid combination. I personally don't have one from them, but I know that's where I'm gonna get mine when I do.

An alternative is to order a Johnny Racecar FMIC and piece together piping yourself. All said and done my setup will cost 361.95 which isn't bad by any means, and the core has been proven to be effective whereas we know nothing about this "kit". If it does work though please tell us.

I disagree with some of the claims of you get what you pay for. I can name SEVERAL accounts of buying cheaper parts and performing JUST AS WELL as high priced name brand parts.
My WRX: bought a turboback and uppipe for 350; usually costs over 1100. It worked very well and performed just as good as my buddies rex with same mods but paid 890 more.
My LS1: cheap 300.00 longtubes; performed just as well as my buddies LS1 with Kooks which is the best.
My buddy and I made our own boost controller a year ago for 7 bucks and is still running strong compared to my buddies 120.00 TurboXS

I could go on but I am sure noone cares to read it all.

I am sure it will need sopme tweaking and might not be as good as Greddy or Dejon tool, but I AM SURE it is better than the stock ic.

Johnny racecar was my second choice. My buddy built a homemade turbo kit for his GSR and used a Johnny Racecar and it worked well.

getting a good core and piping it yourself is always the cheapest option. plus you would know that you have good product rather than the cheap piping that comes with that kid. most of the time they used aluminized steel which is garbage as well as heavy. plus with your own kit you can spec everything to your liking.

You can use the OE intercooler from the Toyota Supra, and just have the pipes custom made for it. You will have to cut the front bumper a bit, and place the intercooler at an angle. Since the intercooler is black ya still have a bit of stealth capabilities. Just a suggestion and what i did with my first dsm. ill see if i can find a pic and post it.

I have a HUGE discrepency with the price of FMIC's. For $800 you get a FMIC and 4 pipes. The FMIC is hard to make, yeah it's probably worth the $150-$200. But 4 pipes?

I honestly want someone to compare this eBay pipe with a Greddy pipe. I really want to see what Greddy does to their pipes to make them worth so much money.

Even if you went and got the pipes made yourself, isn't the exactly the same as buying it from XSPower? What if you took your car to XSPower and had them make the pipes?

i dunno how you would know that the XS kits are garabage. You didnt justify anything with that post. I got the XS power Group buy deal from this site for 295 shipped with everything you need to install the kit. It works great and cools really well. I would recommend it to anyone and it has been installed on the 1g and 2g models of our cars.

Add me to the XS Intercooler Bandwagon.. Loving it so far, seems to keep everything nice and cool. Quality and fitment were both excellent. :dsm:

XSPower intercooler cores are complete garbage.

Not true at all. I have one on my car as well, works great and looks nice at the same time. I would say get one of those for sure if you are on a budget.

Where can these XS ic's be bought?

Ebay is the easiest place to find them. There are a bunch on there so you can pick a price you want to spend and just bid that amount, if you lose oh well, bid on the next one that comes up right after that. So many people sell XS intercoolers on ebay it makes getting a price that you think is fair very easy to get.

You don't always get what you pay. Most of the time it works out that way, but that's why they invented Ebay to prove all that wrong. Some people really get their money's worth while other people get ripped off. So you just have to do your research. If I had a 2g, I would probably for the XS kit just because it got such good reviews.

If "you get what you pay for" was always true, then we never would have managed to make the Louisiana Purchase, anyone remember that from history class? Shoot, at 2 cents an acre, I'd be in that group buy.

How so? A lot of owners have proved this statement false, with experience of using the actual product, and even dynos and ocmparisons from older setups.

I personally will vouch for the XS 2G Kit. It just can't be beat. Even if they sold it for $400 it would still be a good choice compared to most kits that cost double the price. I run a 50 trim setup as well with it and the car has ran so much better. I use to run a Greddy 24row. I use to get knock with it and heatsoak very easy after a few runs. Now I get no knock, and I can run it so many times and havn't had it heatsoak.

Has anyone realized that when the original person that said XS power intercooler are complete garbage was back in November, before there was a long thread praising them. There was not a group buy until February of this month and that, I am sure is when most of the people that have the XS power intercooler purchased theirs. I know I will buy mine from them as soon as I get my car back up and running good.
