Increase in turbo noise?

during the proccess of my engine rebuild I will be adding some new parts and am wonderin if they will have an effect on the noise of my turbo and bov

I heard that a 2g mas is afair bit louder of a 1g. so is no mas atall really loud?


The reason why I ask is that where i live police can be quit stiff when it comes to exessive noise. I almost got an exessive noise ticket one time for my turbo and bov. I had to explain to the officer that i needed them and that they wernt some typical honda rice mod.

The blow-thru setup will definitely scream "Im not stock" to your local police.

Just as a note, running a filter straight off the turbo isn't a good idea--it's incredible how different temperatures are at the turbo and 2 feet away (and yes, compressing cold air is better than hotter air even more).

As for your turbo noises, it'll be loudest with just the filter, less loud with a pipe too, and less loud the more restriction you put on it.

I have no experience with MAFT systems though, so I don't know about the BOV sounds.

I was just going todo the filter on turbo set-up for the winter months. by summer ill have a fmic and rout it to the stock ic location

You're still going to have an MAF, that's what the GM MAF is.

I think he meant no mas going to the turbo, and no i dont think it will have much of an effect, your best best is to put a hard pipe of your turbo so it resonates of the metal pipe, plus youll have cooler air coming in.

You're probably right. It's not gonna effect it tho, the restriction is still there. Although it's much less with the gm maf than with a 1g or 2g maf.

Christ. I've never heard of cops almost citing for excessive noise from a spooling turbo... Remind me to never drive my car in Canada; I'd be screwed.
If you're running a blow-thru set-up, you will be a little louder.... My 2G MAS w/ a 14B is pretty loud......

i have a 16g right now with a turbo xs RFL, its pretty loud,

I was exellerating hard right when acop was comming out of a residential, pretty much perfect timing on his part.
it was kinda a combo of turbo and bov noise he heard.
