2. Checking for Spark: Before checking for spark, first remove and inspect your spark plugs. Are they improperly gapped or have they been fouled by age, improper fuel mixture, etf? If so, replace them and try to start the car again.

To check for spark, disconnect one of the spark plug wires and attach a spare spark plug (it’s always good to have a spare handy – you can use a cheap-o one from Wal-Mart for testing purposes). Place the plug and plug wire onto the valve cover and have a friend crank the car. Do you see spark arcing onto the valve cover? Sometimes it’s best to do this test at night – this makes it easier to see the spark. Repeat this test on all 4 cylinders to verify that you’re getting spark all the way across. If you’re not getting spark on some or all of the cylinders, first check the condition of the spark plug wires – does the spark try to arc through the wire while you’re testing? If so, the wires are damaged and must be replaced. Next, check resistance at the coil. Specs differ by year, so refer to your FSM for the specs for your particular vehicle. If everything tests out okay and you’re still not getting spark, pull the ECU and check the board for damage due to capacitor leakage. DSMs are not getting any younger, and are notorious for leaking ECU capacitors. One final culprit could be the CAS. These differ by year as well, so again, refer to FSM for appropriate testing procedure and specifications. First, however, you might want to make sure the CAS is not turned 180* out (i.e. “on backwards!”).

And did you really need to make another thread about your same problem 4mins later??? WTF

I am not sure your statement is correct. I once rebuilt a distributor/carburettor type four cylinder engine 180 degrees out of time and it tried to fire but would not run of course.
In those kind of engines you could turn the distributor 180 degrees to solve the problem.
Don't guess at things. Prove it out.
Take the timing sprocket cover off and align timing marks on the camshaft sprockets as per factory specs. Then check that the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley is near zero degrees TDC. Take out the number one cylinder spark plug and verify that the piston is at TDC.
If you are asking for help, tell us some back ground information. For example did the engine used to run and now it quit, or did you just rebuild it?. Be specific. We will try to help you.

thanks toonah and yeah i was a fresh build my cam gears are obx racing 5 way adjustable gears and no cover on so they dont line up they have like a factory timing makrk on them and my gear marks just go in circles they dont meet each other u know what im saying

ok killa dsm thanks for ## help but for the record im not ####ing retarded i know how to check for spark and guess what this reply helped no one in no way shape or form did u answer my questions new ecu new msd full ignition coil /wires so brand new cant be bad trust me i did the process of elimination 1000 times

Please stop making multiple spurious threads. I've merged a two of them together... please don't do it again.

for the record im not ####ing retarded i know how to check for spark

Well I figured you might be because you aren't using proper grammar and couldn't take the time to check if your CAS was 180* out. Instead you wanted someone to hold your little hand, rather then checking your CAS first. So I figured it was a good starting point for you. And also there are a ton of threads on no start diagnoses on this site.
Keep in mind that people on the forums don't get payed for helping others, so at least appropriate a suggestion and not have a little attitude.

Either way good luck. We can't save them all!
