Hey all, I was over at Barnes&Nobles reading some books and magazines and a thought came to my attention. Has anyone of you ever been previewed or interviewed in any import magazine? Also how come the DSM community seems to be under estimated alot? Just to elaborate, how come we don't see any tech articles or how to's on the magazines for our vehicles. I was just wondering, just getting annoyed why honda's are always previewed....

Because honda guys outnumber us and well latley i have been noticing less and less civics at least. Starting to see more evos and wrxs, not to mention a bunch of drift cars silvia,ae86,rx-7s...I guess like in importtuner and superstreet our cars are outdated who knows really why..But I know modified Mag is still looking out for the dsm community I see them advertise for this site and they also have tech articles on there 2g talon. So we are still kinda hangin in there

I think that some of it has to do with the fact that We just arent' nearly as flashy as a lot of cars in the magazines. Some 2gs have been in the mags. And i think modifyied mag or sport compact is doing a dsm build up. The magizines know dsms are fast, but 90% of their buyers own a honda. As they say in the music bussiness, you have to play to your audiance.

were not in those magazines cause we dont have misguided children modding our cars. we dont have people that think you can slap on a turbo and nawss and make 700hp. and besides, all those cars in the magazines are show cars, even though theyre fully built they will never see action cause the driver has spent too much money having other people do the work for him to get his car dirty. and were not in any of those cause none of us rice out our cars enough, they dont feature "stock" looking cars.

For the same reason you can afford one: because they haven't been built for five years.

The magazines make no sponsorship money off them, why should they care?

Welcome to the Trailing Edge of automotive progress.

I see. To be honest also I think I like not being noticed by the mass media, We have this community built here and its prettty cool. Thats enough for me. Thanks for the info also :)

^^^I agree with you about not wanting to be 'mainstream.'

I really dont like very many magzines on the shelves these days. I usually get Sport Compact Car because they focus on the performance aspect and I have seen several references to our cars. They use 'DSM' instead of the actuall name of the car, and they say that DSM's have a 'cult like following' and they talk about the potential of them.

I got an import tuner the other day and I dont like it. They featured a twin turbo G35 coupe and took up 1.5 pages talking about the paint job and used about 3/4 page to talk about the engine setup. And for that little bit they did talk about the engine they talked about the shop that installed everything, instead of doing the work himself.

P.S.
I dont know if anyone has heard of HCI but i got it yesterday and it is great so far. It is only about 100 pages and it is full or performance. They even have an article on making your own custom exhuast instead of buying one. I recomend it.

Turbo Mag is pretty informative. Maybe not as far as DSM's are involved but they are still pretty good to read.

Modified Mag has a Green 2GA talon that they have put a HAHN super 20G and a brake kit on. It is pretty good I suppose.

The Evo, STi, G35/350Z, and the newer honda/acura colabirations are taking over. I too, have seen less and less of the ricer civic. The 1 page of paint writeup is ok since most are not TF&TF anymore. Just nice paint schemes like the turbotrix EVO.

Underestimating is fine by me.

That's F'd up, especially since a DSM with beat the shit out of one of those hondas.
You must not have seen the hondas from around here, these guys dont joke. Many are very fast. check www.ultraspeed.com . They are one of the biggest teams around on the east coast. I'm not saying dsm's wouldnt beat any hondas, i just wouldnt want to be the one saying ALL hondas.

I really done like any of the Sportcompact magazines except for Modified. I am a muscle car guy and I really like Carcraft. They do projects and buildups that real people can do with real amounts of money. Sure reading about a 1100 WHP Supra is cool, but I will never have enough time or money to do that. Sometimes they will have a good article in those mags, but I just get them when I am bored and what to read soething on the shitter.

I like that DSM are not mainstream.

funny you should say that, i was sick and my mom bought me a modified mag, i usually don't get that one, i usually get sport compact car, but, she bought it for me and their project car is a 2g GSX.

Just a lil' FYi I though i'd share.

Most DSM's couldnt make it all the way to the photoshoot and back.

That, plus age, and street presence makes our cars less than desirable for magazines.

I read car craft, hot rod and the occasional chevy hi performance (from my f-body days) because they have good tech articles that can be applied to almost any car. I will get SCC if Coleman has a interesting article or the the USCC is going, they usually have at least one DSM in there.

im gonna have to say even thow superstreet dont show much dsm there a really good mag better than any ive read and i read alot like in school and saturday school :) only things that sucks is all it shows is hondas and nissans but there ok i guess

i read one called TPR i beleive ( tuner perfromance report) or soemthing like that.. they are good. the whole magizine is dyno product testing and all sorts of bad ass stuff. they had i think 2 featured cars which were a very nice supra and a auto x tuned s2k.

its a sweet magizine. scc and import tuner and all that is ghetto honduah's which do not at all keep my attention since i have yet to see one that is totally unique..

just my .02

The December 2004 issue of Sport Compact Car has 2 EVOs and a 1G DSM in it. I recommend picking up a copy!

Is available on newsstands now, just be sure to get the December issue as it is brand new and some places still have the November issue out.

they had a tech article for a 1g talon in one of the import tuners. It was kinda a long time ago, like over the summer 4 or 5 months ago, and i cant remember if they did it on a turbo or non turbo, but i think it was n/t cause they were adding headers and intake pipes instead of boost controllers and ported o2 housings :).

That was the one with the 1oo+hp added to it. Was a turbo dsm. There was a thread about it and most of it was a bunch of crap.

The Sept. '04 issue of DSport has an article on a 700 HP 2G GSX, a test and tune series going on a '03 EVO, and mentioned a 1G project that is underway. It also has advertisements from many of the same vendors that are on DSM Tuners, and some that aren't, that cater to DSM's. So there are some mags out there that know about, and respect the DSM community. DSM's may not be as popular as some of the imports, but people who really know performance cars know about them.

Like other people said, I would rather not be popular. I dont want more civic owners buying up all of the DSMs and riceing them out.
