Boosting the 6 cylinder (6g72) motor is possible as well. & in fact, has been done with, single turbo, twin turbo & even superchargers. But the 6G72 motor isnt nearly as strong as the 4 cylinder 4g64. Displacement reasons... We all know, "there is no replacement for displacement"

As far as HP goes, you can easily establish 250hp with a single turbo or a stage 1 supercharger from www.rippmods.com on the 6g72 motor. Check out www.tearstone.com for both 4 cylinder & 6 cylinder turbo kits for the 3rd generation eclipse.

If you browse the 3G forums in my post above, you can find the "forced induction" threads that are very helpful. They have a thread for both the 4g64 & the 6g72. They answer a lot of questions in there if you use the search tool. If you read every post on the first page, I can just about gaurentee you'll be totally informed about the 3G & boosting it. Just about every nook & cranny of the eclipse is discussed through & through.

Here is a picture of a single turbo kit for the 6 cylinder 6g72 Eclipse

Feel free to ask if you have more questions. Might as well lend some 3G knowledge since I am no longer using it :thumb:

The last time that I checked, none of the turbo kits were producing reliable power. I knew that RPW was planning on making a turbo kit for the 6G72 and had one running but I didn't think that they had released it in the US.

I did a lot of research when I had my 3G and decided the even though the supercharger was more money, it was worth it for the reliability. Ripp's Black Box is awesome. I know that they were still working some bugs out of it when I bought my AWD, but it was still a nice piece of work when I got out of the 3G's. This was back when they were just figuring out how to put the e-manage on there so I am sure that there have been a few changes since then.

if its a V then im twin turbo'ing it.... so would you happen to know where i can get a 3rdGEN body

That I don't know.. Hard to find just a shell of a 3G. If it's a shell, then the motor & tranny was probably pulled because the car was totalled...

Good luck with the search on that.

well, i'm not an expert at DSMs or 3gen, but i do know that twin turbo'ing v6 is not worth. if 250 is what you are shooting for, why bother wasting more money and twin it when you can achieve just about the same single. Not talking about the max power, but the lag and everything.
when i used to own Mitsu's cousin, hyundai (well, i call them cousins) i custom boosted all on my own. was running 12 psi and did all the work myself using fabricated 4g63 parts. let me tell you, it's a hell of work and alot of little things go wrong.

also, 6g73 is just about same as hyundai's delta (new tib engine v6), where the block and head is aluminum, making it lighter but weaker. they are known to hate boost. not saying can't be done, but will need lot more work to put as much power as older engines.

as for SOHC and DOHC difference, you really won't notice great difference when the vehicle is boosted. only disadvantage in SOHC is that you do not have as much tunability as DOHCs can when it comes to timing. But nothing can't be done. I also have an experience boosting honda d16 engine in my friend's civic. it is the SOHC VTEC engine from 96-00 civic ex. pushing 364HP to wheel and all work done by myself using fabricated DSM parts. but again, a lot of maintenance and work. also problems.

well, what i'm trying to say is that 3gen v6 is not really made to handle boost. no car was made for boost unless they come boosted. not that it can't be done, it is just not recommended. you can achieve 250WHP on 6g73 by all motor. you do not really have to go too much into internal, but good tuning and time can reach there.

if you really want turbo, just have extra $10-15k in hand to get everything fabricated and slap on 4g63. hope it helped
