I figured I just need the hub adapter for another 55 or so and I would be set right? On another note will any aftermarket steering wheel fit as long as you have the hub adapter? Thanks

I was wondering the same question because you can get a lot of decent looking wheels off e-bay. from what I've been told is you can get almost any steering wheel as long as you have the correct adapter for your car, but I'm not certain on that so dont take my word on it until someone chimes in with first hand knowledge.

Careful shopping will find you a hub for less than that. The wheel's not hideous, but if I were replacing, I'd go for one with a flat bottom. Maybe you're not porky enough to have to fight back-and-forth between the wheel and seat on every in-and-out (so-to-speak).

I'd agree, flat bottom wheels will give you more clearance by your knees. I know i and most everyone else who i know that has a DSM needs it.

Don't all 2G's have tilt wheels? Or maybe I'm just little at 5'9" 150lbs.

even with the wheel up i still have to finnagle my legs to get out, so definately if i got a different wheel it would be flat bottomed.

I'm 5'9 185 and my knees don't touch. But I'm gonna keep looking, thanks for the input

When you get an adapter make sure that the dish(distance from the back of wheel to the bottom of the mounting plate) is the right depth cause I installed the aluminum GT wheel from APC in my 94 and the dish was only 2" and my fingers would hit the turn signals or washer lever every time I turned so I got another wheel with a 3" dish and it had much better clearance of the levers. :talon:

I'm 6' 165 lbs. And i have tenzo-r bucket seats. Tough to climb in the seats but no trouble with clearance of the steering wheel. :dsm:

We can't have these types of steering wheels on and pass inspection can we?
Foggy area. It will probably depend on where you live. It's illegal for a dealer to sell a car without all its safety equipment, but what an owner can remove remains a question I've not found an answer to. California gave up on safety inspections when they found out they could make more money on smog raping. Er, testing.

Yeah, I suppose the county makes mad money on fining for this sort of stuff too.......It's probably a trade secret to them ROFL

It is illegal to alter or remove crash safety equipment such as airbags reguardless of your plans to sell or keep the car. If you get in a wreck and get hurt with a non-stock steering wheel in a factory airbag equipped vehicle your insurance can deny your claim.

With that said, I am 6'1" 180 lb and my knees/legs rubbed on the bottom of the factory wheel before I did the raise mod which gave me another inch of room.

You have to be careful when going to aftermarket steering wheels, they tend to be alot more rigid then the stockers which isnt always a good thing. Factory and OEM spec steering wheels are designed to collapse in accidents to help absorb impact energy. If you go and get some moly tube welded wheel and wreck your gona bust your face up real good.

If you can find any statutes to that effect, I'd be appreciative. I've not been able to find anything about it.

If you're sitting close enough to be able to reach the steering wheel with your body while buckled-in, you might deserve it.

Is that the spacers under the mount? I only got about ½" out of it, dammit.

Aftermarket hubs have their own crush length which factory hubs lack.

There are exemptions but basicly unless you are sub 4' tall, 12 years old or younger, are really fat, or pregnant you must leave the drivers side airbag intact.

You wouldnt believe how much you move in your car when you get hit head on in a 40+ mph wreck. I was digging chunks of glass out of my forehead for months.

Yea I removed the spacers and messed with the mounts a bit.

The hubs crush but they do not absorb the impact that an oem spec wheel does.

That's dealers and repair businesses. Is there anything about private owners?

Thank you very much for that link. :thumb:
