Im new and got a few questions

I just picked up a stock 91 TSi AWD and i had a few questions.

a buddy of mine has had several of these and tells me that stock boost from the factory on the 14b is 7-8psi is this true? if so why does my stock boost gauge go up to 14ish under WOT.


Another question, what is the standard voltage at idle for a properly running alternator

And my final question is, when i accelerate from a stop i hear a single pop from the driver side front end. usually in first or second depending on how hard i press the gas.

Stock boost is around 11psi. The actuator runs it to appx. 7psi but the boost control solenoid helps raise it above that.

The stock boost gauge is not actually a boost gauge but an air volume meter that runs off of the MAF.

My car sees 13.5v all the time.

The pop sound you hear can be made by a hard decel then accel? It is most likely the axle fitting loose the the hub. Pull the wheel off and hit the axle nut with an impact and see if it helps.

thanks RST i just installed a new boost gauge today, and it does seem to only go to about 7 which seems kinda low but it pulls as much as my other friend's which is also stock but he has no gauges.

RSTchris is probably correct on the pop in the front but you should also check the ball joint and the control arm bushings. If everything checks out good and it is still popping it may be a fatigue crack in the structure. But that is unlikly. Let us know what you find.
