Hey guys, ive done some searches but not the answers i was looking for.
Im looking into buying a '97 TSi AWD in the next couple months if the guy indeed does sell it in my local area. Its pretty clean, 60k original miles on the stock 7-bolt. Its fairly modded, Evo 3 16g, 17psi with supporting mods, wally 255 fp, afpr dsmlink and aftermarket gauges. It has a shep stage 3 trans and an ACT clutch. Its in storage for the winter and hes only driven it 400 miles in the last 2 years. Hes looking for around $6k+ if he decides to sell. I am 19 and yes i am buying it with my own money.
Now im in love with 2g's and i am really afraid of crankwalk. I know its overrated and can happen on any given motor but i can't really say that since i didn't have any luck with my 1st tsi with a 7-bolt. Ever since then my parents are pushing me to buy a "normal" car.
Now my question is, i know '96 was the worst year for CW and 97-99 bolt's were better built, i wanted to know if id be taking a risk buying a 2g this low in miles, my parents would agree with the mileage but don't know the risk that comes with dsms and its hard to explain to them. After i bought my 1st TSi modded i pledged to never buy another modded car, but this one is tastefully modded.
I know pretty much what to check for, when making sure CW hasn't already occurred. Plus all of that other good stuff, i know a dsmwiseman whom has worked on the car and would check it out to make sure its good.
Sorry for the long post, but i dont feel like fetching out 6k and have motor build downtime just yet. I know 6k is worth it especially shifting a shep tranny. Thanks GUYS!!!!

I would not worry about it to much. before you DO buy it, i would get under the car and check it for any walking. if you think there is excessive crank movement, there's your answer.
. my car is having issues right now. i say issues ### i have no time to diagnose it right now... but it has NOTHING to do with crankwalk. i think its something along the lines of... it has 215k on it... and sh!t happens. so if that is your worry, then steal it out from under the guy. hard to find those cars in good condition and low miles like that! oh and one key thing is.. when something goes wrong or seems kinda funny with the car stop driving it and fix it. ask us what may be wrong or how to fix it.don't continue driving it hoping it will go away like some do. then you will have serious problems. and don't let a mechanic touch your car unless you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO!

Damn you thought you were all good till snap bent valve. Thanks alot timing.
