Hey guys, ive done some searches but not the answers i was looking for.

Im looking into buying a '97 TSi AWD in the next couple months if the guy indeed does sell it in my local area. Its pretty clean, 60k original miles on the stock 7-bolt. Its fairly modded, Evo 3 16g, 17psi with supporting mods, wally 255 fp, afpr dsmlink and aftermarket gauges. It has a shep stage 3 trans and an ACT clutch. Its in storage for the winter and hes only driven it 400 miles in the last 2 years. Hes looking for around $6k+ if he decides to sell. I am 19 and yes i am buying it with my own money.

Now im in love with 2g's and i am really afraid of crankwalk. I know its overrated and can happen on any given motor but i can't really say that since i didn't have any luck with my 1st tsi with a 7-bolt. Ever since then my parents are pushing me to buy a "normal" car.

Now my question is, i know '96 was the worst year for CW and 97-99 bolt's were better built, i wanted to know if id be taking a risk buying a 2g this low in miles, my parents would agree with the mileage but don't know the risk that comes with dsms and its hard to explain to them. After i bought my 1st TSi modded i pledged to never buy another modded car, but this one is tastefully modded.

I know pretty much what to check for, when making sure CW hasn't already occurred. Plus all of that other good stuff, i know a dsmwiseman whom has worked on the car and would check it out to make sure its good.

Sorry for the long post, but i dont feel like fetching out 6k and have motor build downtime just yet. I know 6k is worth it especially shifting a shep tranny. Thanks GUYS!!!!:hellyeah:

How old are you?

Is it your money not your parents money? If its your money and you want the car get it.

Crankwalk is overratted! flat out! I have a bud who has a 2g it walked but seriously I think its a scare tatic that you could use to drop the price of the car.

If you want the car get it.

Yeah its my money. Worked my a** off for it. I got screwed buying my 1st 2g and ended up parting to out to get some loot back. I want a 1g but cant find a decent one around and i would not buy a 2g with a 6 bolt swap, most of them were not done properly and thats another headache.

See this is the thing, it has 60k on it but i heard they walk around 60k-80k no matter how much you maintain it. Once you clear the 80k's your chances of getting CW have dropped. I mean im planning a G4CS 2.4L build in the future but after i get my money straight LOL. I also took that into thought that i will talk to guy to drop the price because of the CW issues that i don't want again. Thanks again guys.

I'll tell you this. Any car you buy could have an issue, in fact I saw a buddy buy a car with low miles (not a DSM) and it needed a head gasket replacement shortly after. I have also seen dealers sell a car that needed engine work (new head). So you are always taking a risk when buying any used car, each has their own issues. However, at least you would be making a risk with the best cars around!:thumb:

Crank walk is just a bad crank bearings.
My crank walk happen at 160k mileage cost me 50bucks for acl bearings still running strong until my timing jump and bent a vavle

crank walk is WAAAY overrated. get the car. if its clean and has that low of miles i would snatch it up in a heartbeat. plus that year talon is a mighty nice looking car!! i would agree with another oster. use the crankwalk scaretactics as a bargaining chip. =) good luck!

0-80..................... in 3 seconds. Wow. thats:tease:the most possible thing i ever heard. He wont even get 3 seconds if he had a v8 352 in it manual. So if we want to go 0-60 thats like 2.34 seconds. Not happening. He should go home and:banghead: against a reinforced brick wall. but don't beat the piss out of it. Beat the $H!T out of it.:hellyeah::sneaky: NAh but keep up on maintenance do it right and that car will treat you like a king............ or queen. Whatever floats your boat

Yea your not kiddin I just paid 4000 for a 95 GSX from a guy on here about two weeks ago and its not done right at all.And its a 1g 7 bolt so IMO its more trouble than its worth. It wouldnt be so bad but it was suposed to be my DD not a project.
