Also, keep in mind that some neighborhoods have homeowner association fees that are not included in the cost of the house. It sucks to find out that info after you have already signed a contract and going through the purchase of the house. Ive never had it happen(I know to check out all hidden costs) but a friend of mine didnt know about the fees until the day he closed on the house. He was already stretching his budget to afford the house only to find out he also had $150/month HA fees to pay.
