Ok, for the guys running the stock 16's, what tires are you using? I plan on upgrading to 225/50/16s, and hardly anyone makes good tires for my car. I need AA traction and simply can't find any tires under $200 per. I've searched, but no luck. I'm running bridgestone turanza 205/55/16s on the back, but I need front tires other than the goodyear eagles on it now. Any suggestions?

Have you looked at the BF Goodrich Traction T/A? It's not exactly a stylish tire, but it's AA traction (the V or H-rated model), has excellent tread-wear, and comes in a 215 series size for a 16" wheel. It's what I currently have on my car. You didn't say what kind of driving you do, but my car is basically a daily driver; I may try to hit the drag strip a bit more from now on, though.

What about the Falken RT-615? Hankook Ventus? Bridgestone Potenza Re-o1r? All top tires in national street tire autox and all should be under $200 per if you shop around. Hell my 275/40-17 RT-615's were only like $150 a piece.

I've had great results with the Kumho Ecsta MX. When it's warm they almost get gooey like an R compound (only a slight exaggeration :D ). Seriously, small gravel sticks to the tread surface. They are definitely stickier than the Bridgestone Potenza SO-3's that they replaced (although not quite as responsive when cornering). I got stock FWD GST size 205/55/16 for $88 apiece from The Tire Rack.

Like mavisky suggested, I have also heard very good things from guys running the Falken Azenis RT-615.

Stop right there. You really don't want to squeeze 225s on a 6"-wide wheel.

You're in Wisconsin. The stockers get the Blizzaks. Save up for decent-width wheels and put 245/40/17s on them.

In any event, Kumho MXs, Kumho SPTs, Fuzion ZRis, and Dunlop DZ101s are all under $100 for a 205/55/16. The TireRack is your friend.

...I'm not in Wisconsin. I'm in North Carolina. I like the look of the stock rims.

Some of the best tires I have found are the BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDW2's. They have great traction and good, for the amount of grip they provide, treadwear. I'd go the 225/16 route. The sidewall size goes with whatever you think will be best, as far as ride height, wheel well space, etc.

I run the Toyo Proxes T1-R but on some 235/45/17 Evo rims and I really like them. They have them in both sizes you listed in your post. Both are also under $150.

The sidewall size is used in determining ride height. This number goes hand in hand with the width to determine overall rim clearance. This is important with your speedometer and ABS/Traction Control.

Our cars do not have TC and the ABS does not care about tire size. This thread is not only a repeat of an often-asked question, but it's starting to have too much misinformation to be acceptable.

The next person to suggest 225s on a 6" rim in the Handling Forum will be e-tickled into submission.

Say something new, ask a new question, or move along. Nothing to see here.
