Ok guys I have a non-adjustable timing light. How do I set ignition timing with my cam gears? The video that I found does not exist anymore. So I can't go by that. Any help.

Engine Timing

I did mine by pointing the gun at the came gears making sure the intake gear mark was 9 o clock postion and exhaust gear 3 0 clock postion. yo might neeed a hand while some one tuns the cam sensor. thats how i did mine and was good but some one correct me if im wrong.

yes that whould be o. In that case you just point at the tab on the lower timming cover where it says 5 and 10 simply adjust it till its at 5. Like it says in the link.

There is a notch on the damper pulley you may have to white mark so that it is visible.

I've never done timing by camshaft marks, though I saw the dead link to the video too. It's surely less than ideal since 5 deg crankshaft movement is only 2.5 deg camshaft movement. However, since your exhaust cam mark will be above the VC line BTDC and intake below, you should be able to eyeball it.

If you want to be more accurate, use some trig.

radius * sine 2.5 degrees
or
1/2 sprocket diameter * 0.04361

If I guess 3 inch radius, it's just about a 1/8th of an inch and a total of 1/4 inch between the 2 marks.

Of course, I was never very good at math.

It's not much help but get your plastics one and do it the right way. They are there for more than timing, they help prevent foreign objects from getting caught in the timing belt, break it, mess up your valves and potentially cause thousands of dollars of damage. So get them on, point the light and adjust the CAS until it reads 5*BTDC.

Alrighty then, plastic install is the way to go. Thanks. So if I am off one tooth by some miracle, would I be unable to time the car?

Would 1 tooth honestly, make it were it can't even accelerate and miss all the time during accel.

BTW, I checked my actual marks, they are spot on. ignition timing is all I'm concerned with.

yeah a tooth off will be a reason your car will run like crap, make sure your timing marks are correct before you proceed..
