Idle problems

Ok so my 96 GS-T idles really low when its warmed up or hot, and really really high when its cold. What could it be? Also my thermostat on my dash doesn't work (don't know why) could that do something?

Yeah I have one but it's not on and it has came on and the code was a missfire in cylinder 2 but it wasn't really missfiring. could it be the idol control computer?

The missfire 2 cel is common it just kinda goes away, Well you see your thermostat sensor is linked to your IAT sensor so i would start with those two things first also check for any vac leaks. If your IAT sensor is going bad it will cause it, disconnect it and see if the idle, high OR low stays the same rpm without more them 150 rpm difference.

O yeah, my thermostat on the dash doesn't work....I haven't really investigated as to why not yet but could that be it?

I think you should start with your IAT first then move to the Coolant Temp Sensor. Do you have a multimeter ?

Sorry i'm not cool enough to know all the DSM lingo yet haha....so whats IAT? and yes I have a multimeter

Intake Air Temp sensor. If you have a multi meter you can test the Ohms for it. Start your car and let it warm up, After that put your multimeter on Ohms and test the resistance on the sensor. It should be between .30-.45 ohms. If it is way under or over then there is your problem. Also take it out and look at the little dongle inside and make sure its still even there.

You definitely want to check your Idle Speed Control Motor. You could also try adjusting your BISS or Base Idle Set Screw. It's right on the front of the throttle body.

I could also be the FAIV or a bad coolant temp sensor. The temp gauge is not functioning. That would be the first problem to fix. It's on the list.

Check IAT, coolant temp, IAC sensors for correct readings with a multimeter. Get a haynes manual.
