I just had a head replaced after bending some valves. The car starts up fine but idles horribly. Also it drives normally. On idle it'll run at about 1000 to 1100 rpms real rough, base timing is 10 degrees, vacuum is between 7 and 16 in.hg. I'm running a 1g CAS. I've checked my egr system along with the entire vacuum system and the correct location of every line. Plug wires are in the correct firing order. Zero boost leaks on leakdown test.

I was thinking it was my IAC motor, but it clicks when you put the key in the on position, havent checked it with an ohmmeter. If I unplug the IAC motor the car tends to run at 16 vacuum. But I have a feeling this might be covering up the vacuum leak elsewhere.

Could you guys think of anything that would affect idle but not normal driving like this?

So your saying it idles but when you drive it, it stops. Sounds like a vacumm leak. I'm not 100 percent sure. But it's what I learned from experience. Try pinching some hoses.

Did you properly time your car? Did you use a timing light to adjust the timing? If not follow these instructions first Engine Timing. Besides that i would check your vacuum lines and you already checking your iac motor.

I'll recheck the timing marks and base timing again but I did use a light on it and I have checked the timing marks once. One thing I noticed is that after I unplugged the IAC motor I would get a real clean idle for a couple seconds on startup, and then a rough idle. This makes me think there's something happening in those first couple seconds thats changing.

I have pulled the top vacuum hose off the EGR valve and made a vacuum while it was idling, and the car began to run worse, so I'm pretty positive that it is working correctly.

I'm beginning to regret paying that tech to mount my head because now there's so many factors involved that I dont know where to start. I was thinking I'd be saving myself alot of trouble having a guy experienced with DSMs do it :notgood: First and last time I goto a shop, horrible horrible experience.
