Ok here we go. I bought a '91 gsx; is my first turbo king car just have on the cluster 96,000 miles and the prior owner tell me he just put a motor with 45,000 miles on it. I buy it for only $500. The car was park for 5 years. When I finally saw it; its just impressive, the body and interior is an excellent conditions. I had to tow the car because the fuel pump doesn't work. So, I put a new fuel pump; but for my surprise the car just start for 30 minutes and turn off. I tried to start the car again but just crank. I verify the spark plug and all has spark, but the injector doesn't have any power. Then I verify the ECU, and was fried. I send it to ECM Tuning to get repair. When I receive the ECU and plug it into the car and the car start right away, but I hear a thick noise coming from the head; I turn off right away and check the timing and the car was out of timing. I turn down timing belt and put again on time. Now, the car start and is idle right; but it have poor acceleration and back fire. I check the Cel and give me the code 14. I take out the TPS and the Throttle body and clean it. Now, the Cel just turn on in idle but when I accelerate the car the Cel go but the car still has poor acceleration and back fire. So, what can I do?:banghead:

Well the first thing i would do is check plugs, ,and wires, and do a boost leak test, Do you have a blt , thats a must to find boost leaks.

Sounds kinda like my car when I bought it. Got some plugs and wires and fixed the 4 boost leaks it had and got rid of the malfunctioning cruise control and it ran fine. I'd do a boost leak test first and foremost.

Did you set your timing with a timing light? If not you need to. Also it is super common to have lifter tick on a 1g since they have such small oiling holes in the lifters. Back firing can be sign of out of time or i don't even want to say it, but it could be a symptom of a bent valve. I would also make sure you have good plug wires.
You generally get symptoms of breaking up or backfiring if they are worn out. They seem to show there weakness when the car starts to boost.

Here is your timing adjustment how to link.

Engine Timing

Also you said you took off the tps sensor. That sensor has to be set correctly in position or it will not be adding the right amount of fuel at the proper time.
Plus check your throttle cable to ensure it does'nt have any slack but, not pulling so hard that it has the throttle plate pulled open.

Thanks for the advice chanley on the tps i would go back to the manual to set it right and see what happen, and yes I already check the timing with light . What I go to do is a blt and double check the tps. Thanks for all your help.

Thanks every one finally resolve the problem . I went back and check the fuel pump and dont have a good connection . But at least i learn a lot and my car is running right . Now go to the next step need new brakes.
