I did a search on this and didn't quite get all my questions answered. I figured since its alot cheaper to make your own intercooler pipes and then just buy the core for an intercooler setup. I found this write up on it write up but he uses all 2 1/4" piping. Also the pics don't work. But anyways I found sites that carry 3" would that be better for intercooler pipes or do you not want it that big? Also what should you use as pipe material I know that you want mandrel bent, but what is your best bet steel? Stainless steel? Aluminum? I was also wondering what the size of the thorttle body is. If you got 3" piping and then wanted to connect it to the TB would it be too large to connect it to that? Thanks.

You need enough diameter to eliminate restriction but not so much that you create excessive volume which may contribute to turbo lag. The IC outlet and TB are both around 2 1/4. Also, if your piping is larger than the TB, and you have to reduce it to make a connection, you have created a restriction.

2.25"-2.5" is pretty common. 3" is overkill for most.

3 is definately overkill on any NORMAL setup. Go with about 2.25 mandrel bent stainless and you should be fine. Don't forget to curl the ends of the ic pipes so that when in boost they don't physically BLOW apart from the couplings that your using to join them.

Goodluck

What do you mean by curl the ends? I mean you would get all the pipes and the hoses and connect them right? So what is this curling the ends?

I think he means bead them. It's like a small raised lip on the end so the coupler won't slide off. I wouldn't bend the ends, just scuff the pipe and use some JB Kwik to make a bead.

Unless you glue them together, you will need a bead on your pipe ends where you join them with rubber/silicone connectors or they will blow apart.

Right.... Bead/Curl/Turn up/Make A Lip...

Same thing, cause when boosting it is alot of pressure being fed through that piping. Trust me an IC pipe blowing off is about as scary as they come!

If you want some good experience (or it may be a bad one :p ), Go rent a mig welder for like $35 and put beads on the end with that. Everyone can use a little welding experience :thumb:

Not to act stupid but I still don't know what you guys are talking about. Beading? I thought I would just get the IC pipes and the rubber hoses and clamp them to the pipes. Could you guys expand even more on this beading thing? Does anyone have pictures. Sorry for being so clueless.

i had a muffler shop quickly run an ugly bead around each end of the pipe for 5 bucks, well worth it.
