i whine, therefore i have boost leak

Hello again, back with a problem, ive had some time on my hands lately, so i went to work on my car, i did a couple intake free mods, and today i retightened and inspected all the IC piping(stock),because i was hearing what sounded like a boost leak. i started from the intake manifold and went back, but what i saw at the end broke my heart. It seems that one of the bolts on the compressor out let elbow is stripped in the turbo, the bolt is OK, but the turbo is stripped. Well i drive an auto, so it might be a good time to upgrade to a 2g manifold and a better turbo. this is an unexpected setback....

I'm not sure about the 13g turbos, but with my 16g, I would be able to just drill it out and put a bolt through there. If not, it would definately be worth a 14b upgrade with 2g mani. If you can swap the turbo yourself, it would be a great upgrade for under $300. Or if you have a bit more money, you could upgrade to a used 16g for maybe 300-400 and get even more power!

i'm a gearhead, i would be swapping it myself, so im thinking about just going to a 16g with 2g manifold, im prolly gonna do it sometime soon, but i think the compresspr outlet is just to small for me to try and drill out, ive had bad experiences with taps and dies, they break stuff more often than they fix it, i broke a carbide drill bit trying to get a busted tap out of my wheel so i could put my wheel center back on. I think the upgrade makes more sense in the long run, i can just keep the boost at a normal level until i get all the supporting mods. Thanks for the advice, and sry for the long posts

Yea, running a tap definately takes a bit of practice on certain metals. If you wanted to just limp along, I'd bet a dap of JB Weld over the part that leaks boost would hold for awhile. I'd buy you some time if nothing else, and get you your performance and gas mileage back.

I'd bet if you got a good set of 550cc injectors and a 190lph pump, and some way to control them, you'd be able to boost into some respectable numbers at the track....if thats your thing. Either way, more power is never bad!

Oh yea, long posts are ALWAYS better than short ones that don't tell you a thing.

yeah im just a little broke right now, so until i can get my hands on 600 dollars, i think the JB weld may have to do. It would be great to get my gas mileage back i think I only got 190 on my last tank. I'm pretty sure i get 1 mpg when i start boosting.
