I wanna turbo my ESI 1998 2.0L

I dont want to buy a new car all I wanna do is turbo this one. Tell me everything I need to know to get this done. I need detailed Information. If possible give me a link I can look at to find this information out. Thank you
 
If you do your homework you shall find what you need.

2gnt.com is a good technical place to find info on the 420a, do some searching and browsing and ye shall find what you need.

Check out Hahn's and Star kits and decide what you want. Turboing a n/t takes a while without previous knowledge. Expect to have your car down for at least a month or more.

thanks for the help, and ur car looks amazing what color paint do u have on it i wanted to repaint mine after the turbo what is that called. i want something like that, and how much did that paint job run you. Thanks
 
I would give u the speach about considering a stock turbo one before u go shelling out 3-4 grand on a turbokit that u can only push so much boost out of with your engine, but that speech never did me any good so I guess everyone has to learn on they're own...gl :thumb:

Hahn and Star are both nice. I had a Hahn when I had my NT. If your a total newb to the process I would go with Hahn because thier kit is pretty straight forward..

I dont think it was, I'm thinkin it was just a random thing. LOL I know siue (sorta) from another board.

Anways... about spending 3-4k on an engine that will handle so much is bull crap. Sure the majority DSMers wont drop 10k in their engine to make it push 30+psi, but it is possible. The hardcore n/t DMSers are ####hing 20-25psi right now. Personally my goal is 30, but of course that will take massive upgrading of the fuel system. If an engine is rebuilt well enough with top notch internals, it can handle what you through at it.

All it takes is $$$$

BTW paint is House of Kolor Kandy Purple. $7k
 
I have the star Stage II kit, I bought it from importparts.com because it was cheaper than hahn's stage II and came with the fmic, and bigger turbo from the get go. If your don't plan to rebuilt, bigger may not always mean better since the spool up time will be longer with the star turbo. From what I hear, hahn also has great support and if you call I'm sure they'd answer any questions for you, and you can also keep asking here or at 2gnt. In any case, it's up to u so take a good look at both kits before you decide cause your ganna be 3-4k when all is said and done prob aspecially depending on who will do the install. Best of luck to you, but I'm warning you when it's all said and done your prob ganna be bit hard by the boost bug and want more, so think of wha your getting yourself into ;)

Oh I meant 3-4k for the turbo setup alone. With the engine it depends on your connections imo and how you will get it built. I'm just thinking around 3k for any Stage II kit and misc parts including installation.
 
so if i get the hahn stage I will i need to get a new transmision or no. does everything i need come in the kit i dont want ma engine to blow thats the last thing i need and also im not gonna put to much PSI in it eaither. maybe like 5 or 6 psi just want some speed ma car is piss slow right now.
 
i called this junk yard yesterday and asked if they had any turbos for my car. He said that he did have one for like 600$ and he said they just take it right off the engine of the tsi or something what do u guys think about that. Im a little hesitant about this one.

LOL....wow ok first im not sure of the compression ratio on the 420a but since its n/t its probly tuned for n/t. double up the head gasket, lower ur compression ...if u dont want the turbo to blow ur head apart (probly wont happen at 6 psi but to be safe). 600$ for a turbo from a junk yard is retarded, unless its an aftermarket 18g or something. a new 16g runs like 600-700. 14b is the turbo in a stock tsi, i would just get one of those (snag it from a junkyard or give the owner like 50 bucks for the whole set up). if u put a turbo on u gota remember that there will be some drilling (oilpan) cutting (maybe) involved and some hosing. T-25 turbo is another good one...i cant remember the price of them but thier tiny little things that are capable of 15psi...good little upgrade
 
n yes the paint on crazyclipses car is awesome..i have probly seen the car before but i was probly not paying attention at the time (i live 25 mins away from manchester ;x)
 
i never said the t25 is bad i just said its a safe 15psi, ive seen one push 18-19 but thats ripping it to shit
 
no I didn't mean it like that.

I meant where did you ever hear that its a good turbo. That think sucks. Why do you think every DSM'er swaps it.
