I think it is rebuild time. Please offer 2nd opinion!

Like the title says, I think it might be time to pull the engine again and start another rebuild. Last year I took out my engine and replaced all of the gaskets (except for the head gasket), rebuilt my transmission, installed a ACT2600 clutch and put on a ACT flywheel. The engine and overall vehicle are running great, but I think it is time to upgrade.

Shortly I want to order a EVO3 Big 16g from SBR so I think now might be a good time to replace the head gasket. Currently the head gasket seals fine, but the engine has 120,000 miles on it so I am not quite sure if I want to risk putting on a new turbo only to find my head gasket leaks 1,000 miles later. Considering the milage of the engine I will also be replacing the main/rod bearings, piston rings, seals, waterpump, etc.

In your opinion, does this sound like a good idea or am I just worried of something I shouldn't worry about. The engine runs strong and has about 150psi compression across the cylinders as it sits. So my choices are as follows:

-Pull the engine and rebuild it so I have nothing to worry about besides break in after installing the 16g.

-Install my FMIC along with the 16g turbo and leave the engine alone and be happy until the engine ACTUALLY needs a rebuild.

Personally, I am leaning more toward rebuilding the engine. Agree, disagree?

Me, personally, I wouldnt do it. I think you should just put the turbo and FMIC on it. If you plan to go bigger in the future, then consider the rebuild. There is no reason at this point to rebuild a perfectly good motor. Just swap the turbo and FMIC and go have some fun.

If you are considering a bigger turbo and plan on running quiet a bit more boost you might want to upgrade to a ML mitsubishi head gasket.

a build would be nice but to me it would come down to the money id i had enough or not personally i would if i had that much sitting it the bank id do a great build otherwise i would just throw the parts on for now then start saving and then build it as soon as i could to have a built motor don't hurt nothing just puts more power to the ground and is more durable because with my luck i would be 1000 miles from home and blow her up and then have to tow it home and build it then. but good luck on your decision. :dsm:

^^^what?

If the motor is still good, I agree, 'don't fix it if ain't broke'. If you are planning on building a motor to put some BIG numbers to the ground, I say go for the rebuild and fresh parts. Sounds to me like you are just going to minor turbo upgrade and install a FMIC. Don't pull a perfectly good motor for this, just do the regular maintenance and keep her going! These motors have put down some very respectable numbers on high mileage motors w/ stock internals! Do it smart, play it safe, and have some fun!
