my injen sri came in today and i installed it, venting my stock 2g pos bov to the aptnosphere, yes i know thats a big :nono: but i figured i'd give it a shot, it does stumble after acceleration but thats only because the damn bov is half way open at idle allowing unmetered and unfiltered air into the engine, of course its going to run weird. Anyway to my question i ordered my greddy type rs bov and it should be coming in the nxt few days, i am planning on venting to the atmosphere with this as well, but its adjustable, unlike the stock pos, i just figured i'd adjust it to where i wasn't open at all during idle, (they are supposed to be anyway or so i've been told )

i know it will make it run richer seeing as the a/f will be thrown off slightly after shifts, but i also have a 3" apexi downpipe coming in on Wednesday which will make it run leaner than normal seein as i am going to have almost 0 back pressure since i will be running open downpipe, anyway do you guys see any problems with venting to the atmosphere with a bov that isn't going to be open unless releasing air? i don't but we'll see, btw i have the factory mas, it might turn out well? sorry for the book, tear it apart guys! :thumb:

We can't stop you and we can't stop everyone that vents yes it's bad. It's like having a spoiler on the back on a neon does it really help NO, but some like it how it looks.

will it hurt performance at all? i guess thats my real question...

Yes. Simple as I can put it. Unless you have a GM setup or other proper means :thumb:

i don't see how seein as it doesn't affect boost pressure during wot and the ecu is dumpin all the fuel it can into the motor to get it to accelerate when demanded, the only thing i can see happening is like what i said with the stock bov sucking in air during idle, if i get rid of that problem i don't see how it will make my car run any worse or be slower just because i am venting, and i thought the fuel injectors shut off when you take your foot off of the gas to allow deceleration of the car?

i just went out and drove it, i didn't feel any dif in performance other than it stalling after i let off at wot, but like i said my greddy type rs should fix that prob...

For the life of me, I do not understand why people who know the ill effects of venting (such as yourself) still ponder the question....You know that it will in no way, shape, or form will help you. You also know that it will definitely hinder your performance. But hey...do what you want.

It throws off the long time fuel trims which will hinder performance in the long run. It does make it worse and it slows down spool time in between shifts both because that shot of air isn't helping the turbo spool back up and your so rich its rediculous

1) if it throws off the fuel trims no big deal, unhook the bat. cable to reset the ecu 2) after wednesday i will be running an open 3" downpipe(no cat) i doubt spool time will really be effected bc the backpressure is negligible. the only thing i see lacking is throttle response for now, but i do plan on getting the aem stand alone engine management about summer time to allow me to tune the car better, the thing is its $1200, so i'm gonna have to put some money away for it, i just figured i'd try it this way, no one ever learned anything by doing the same old thing day in and day out, gotta mix it up...plus i've already ordered the parts...LOL

Being ignorant isn't "mixing it up". Why ask if you just sit here and try to justify doing it to everybody? Sorry if that came off as harsh, but I just don't see the point.

If and when you get AEM, set it up for speed density and you'll love it.

If your asking this question man I would love to be there when you install AEMS.

WHY AEM??? You don't need a tuning tool that is that serious. If you can't fig out why venting is bad on your current setup than you probably won't even be able to turn on the AEM.

why would you spend 1k on AEM EMS when you have a95, so you have EPROM just get DSMLink V3

and even with that you still can not go VTA unless you are running a GM MAF after the BOV

so you really wanna drive around and have everyone looking at you ### of you BOV then when you pull to a stop **while everyone is looking at you** your cars dies so you have to crank it over...

i dont think people will think you car is so sweet when you have to keep doing that.

oh and your Greddy RS WILL LEAK, i guess if you got the S it will be fine, but the RS is Complete junk

SO what is the question here??? You asked if its okay to VENT your BOV and everyone said NOOO...yet you refuse to believe it.

YES venting your BOV will cause a LOSS in performance. You may not feel it in your asscheek dyno...but it is hindering performance. TRUST ME :ohdamn:

Don't do it man... Everyone is telling you this for your best interest.... Its obvious that you know the drawbacks of venting to the atmosphere and it really isn't worth the headache just to look or sound cool...

other than it stalling after i let off at wot,

shouldn't that tell you its not good?

I know a guy who has a gsx with a vented RS and i couldn't convince him to recirculate it. unfortunately the car now sits in the driveway in an immobile state with chrome tail lights... :ohdamn:

Geez, some people are so ignorant. It is literally as simple as this:

Venting on a stock MAS= BAD. When you shift, you are releasing to the atmosphere METERED air that your engine was expecting to breath in. Air that was METERED and put into a calculation of how much fuel to inject. Thus, making you run rich because of that air that is no longer there.

Simple. Now follow the pack so you don't screw over your car.

It does hurt performance. There was even an article on this in import tuner this month. So now the ricer crowd knows that its bad.

I'm speechless...almost

If you had your mind made up to begin with, why did you ask us for advice? Is your search button broken? Do you think ignorance is bliss?

Unless you're running a blow through MAF setup AFTER the BOV, you should NOT be venting. All that air the engine THINKS it has, is no longer there once the BOV opens....

Since you refuse to use your factor air metering devices, maybe a carburated setup is what you're looking for.

If you continue with this setup, expect piston tops and valves coated with thick ass carbon next time the head comes off...
