Ok, about done with my rebuild... I followed all the instructions that came in my gates kit. Got it timed perfectly and belt perfectly tensioned, now when I turn the crank by hand the belt walks out maybe a 1/5 to 1/4 of an inch. I did a little more research on the web and it seems that most people cut the hole out on the inner timing cover like shown here 420A Mechanical Conversion Kit Images. Should I take the timing belt back off and cut that part of the cover out? Or is it something that is normal and will straighten out as it runs? Honestly, I don't want to take it back off but can, it's just the fact that i'm doing it myself and struggled big time to get it on.
