Huge electrical problem

Soo... if I hypothetically put my battery cables on backwards. *facepalm* What is the least amount of damage possible that could be done? There was a large amount of smoke coming from the a/c vents. I'm really hoping that my ecu friend, and I'm going to check fuses tomorrow. Are there sub-harnesses to the wiring harness? Thanks you for any help.

Deffinately need a new battery. Also wouldnt hurt to check the alternator. Not to sure on the wiring harnesses though, Id check the fuses too.

umm another thing you would check is any fusable links... once you get the new battery in im pretty sure your ecu will be spitting codes out the yin yang so i would get a repair manual(personaly think chiltons is the best) and trouble shoot it just in case. it should tell you the right code for any fuses or posible links that went bad..... good luck man.

Yeah i would definitely take the cover off of the ecu and check out what it looks like, im guessing the smoke came from there, fuse box under the hood, and under the dash, good luck i hope the ecu is your culprit.

I would also try to inspect as much of the wiring harness under the dash as possible before putting a new battery in.
