Hrc 16g

I have heard some people, who don't have one, say that the 10 cm housing is laggy. They lie. I have a HRC 20G and it is not laggy at all. I am happy thus far with my Hahn turbo.

I have the Hahn Super16g on my GST and I dyno'd 295hp before putting cams and with a faulty o2 sensor and boost controller. I'm probably not far off the other guy at 326hp now.

Boost comes on strong and hard all through redline. I have dyno charts of my runs on my webpage if you goto my bio.

yea its not THAT laggy as some ppl say. they only assume that because of the bigger housing. my mechanic always doubted the s16g and told me that it wouldnt get me into the 12's well i proved him wrong

most of those who complain about the lag havn't spent the time or money to get the remaining supporting mods to eliminate lag. I honestly at this point wish I had MORE lag with this turbo being i'm FWD. I have the 2 stage greddy switch to help me launch but it still wants to rip the tires off the rims. The guys over at turbotrix told me that when I ran the 300hp on their dyno that it was among the highest they had seen for a 16g turbo. I think they mentioned 1 other guy that was just a tad bit higher.

My friend just got the AGP 60-1 E/ .63a/r T31 on his 98 GSX and you want to talk about LAG. my god!! We are having to move the throttle points to 50 or may 60 on the low end to compensate for the onset of boost so late in his foot movement. Otherwise his motor is running hot from him having to compensate for lag by pressing past our current low throttle setting and running a low boosted motor with lean settings.

I don't have any slips or dyno charts because I've never done either, but I have the HRC Super 16G and it is a decent turbo. In 3rd gear, the boost starts building as early as 3K flat, and by 4000 it's easily up to 20PSI or whatever you have the BC set to. It pulls hard until about 6000RPM (at 22PSI), then power seems to drop off pretty fast. I'm getting some HKS cams installed soon, so perhaps that will remedy that, but right now, I'm in the market for something bigger, as I like to run insane amounts of boost. :thumb:

If you only plan to run 16-22 PSI it will be a great turbo, as from experience, this seems to be it's best efficiency range. But anything higher and you'll want to get a bigger turbo. It's a tad laggy, but I have a stock 2G exhaust manifold (not ported) and I have an adapter plate between it and the turbo. So I'm not really running the most exhaust leak free setup. That is another thing to consider. It doesn't bolt up directly to the Mitsubishi manifolds, so you either have to use an adapter (which, if memory serves, is around $200, and I wouldn't recommend it), or get the right exhaust manifold (an extra $400-500). In the end, it would probably be worth it to get an Evo 16G or something. You'd probably save some $$$ and have a turbo that is just as good.

As to how it compares performance wise to other 16G's, I'm not really sure. This is the only other turbo I've ever had besides the stock one. :talon:

There is my $0.02.

I have run a S-16G for about four years now. It's ok, the turbo isn't as good as Hahn hyped it when it first came out, nor as bad as alot of DSM folks say.

My Observations:
Alot of adapters (potential leaks) as posted these can be eliminated.
Price, Hahn really likes his stuff.
It isn't as "bolt on" as advertised.
It is a high boost turbo, happiest at 19-24 psi.
Pulls like a raped ape at full boost, high RPM.
Lag isn't as bad as preached, but you must support it properly, beyond "the kit".
Most guys could reproduce S-16G results with a small or big standard 16G, for less cash.
It does not creep period.
Hardware is all ARP now I hear.
Long term maintenance, I have never had any problems with this turbo.
O2 housing is a work of art. Very nice.

Would I buy one again, no, it's dated and too expensive. Am I rushing out to replace my S-16G, no, when it dies it dies. The car runs high 12's, almost full weight ,and has more in it.
