How to test MAF?

Need help with how to test a MAF. Its on a 92 GS. Every time I start the car with it plugged in the cars spits sputters and dies. If I unplug it she runs fine. Have tried other MAFs with the same results. I'm not driving the car till this is fixed so any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you do any recent maintenance or repairs to the car? Check for a large vacuum leak. Mine acted similarly when I forgot to reattach the vacuum hose to the PCV valve.
