how to tell if somone is running nos or not?

i just ran some sentra ser and i beat him from a roll by about a car and he sticks with me, and we went from a dead stop recently, im fwd and i didn't lauch good but i wasn't able to pull back up to him till about the middle of 3rd gear. and i remeber him saying about using nos before in the past, i just wanna look under his hood and see if hes still squeezing. what do i look for?

i know there is a girl that races sometimes and we all know she is using nitrous, but we cant say for sure because we have no proof. she drives an rsx and she says she only has an intake, yet her car dominates my friend's rsx with many mods done to it. go figure. see what she is doing is pulling hard in 3rd gear and everyone sees it, but no one can say for sure. you will know if he is in third gear and it pulls really hard. also if he has a straight exhaust then you will smell something like bad eggs. this girl has the stock exhaust on her car so the cat filters out the bad smell. i think im going to try to find out if she is using it and ill post back here to tell ya.

You can hear when they are spraying, you just need to be by the engine bay during the race. It sounds like a high pressure washer kinda...but you should be able to distinguish it, at least I can on my friends h22a.

ive never been able to "hear" a car spray, unless it was like a purge or an intercooler sprayer. usually the engine would cover that noise up. the smell and the pull are the things you are looking for.

You can't tell wether someone's spraying by listening if they're running a lower size shot, it's normally at about 75+ that you can hear the "high pressure" sound he was talken about earlier.

Looking at the intake plumbing can determine wether or not they're spraying. Solenoids, lines tapped into the intake, bottle in the trunk, switches inside the car, etc. can all lead to see if someone's spraying. Look for purge tubes, if they have purge, etc.

u can tell if someone is running nitrous by the smell it gives off when its burned its a rich smell u will notice it if your behind them

ya, maybe if the spray was less then a 75 shot you couldnt hear it, but I could tell a difference in the engine noise with ~ 130 shot when and when not spraying.

it smells too, you can really smell it if they use it at the begining, and the revs really pic up when they spray, my brothers friend has a nice setup in his Transam he's got it setup stealth like no lines visible or anything but he has his solenoids out in the open.

:laugh: You guys are FUNNY! I can smell it when they squeeze:laugh: or I can hear it hiss when they pass by me:laugh: You guys crack me up. The only way to know if somebody is running nitrous is to THOUROUGHLY check their intake plumbing to the manifold. Wet shots are a bit harder to hide than dry shots. I've have seen dry shots hidden so good that I would never find any lines unless I was told where to look. But as far as all that hissing and funny smell stuff goes, that is just Ridicolous.

Have you ever heard of a purge kit, when the lines are over pressurized the purge valve releases excess gas into the atmoshpere giving you the hiss, and the smell is a sweet kind of smell and the revs pick up a hell of alot when the gas is hit.

If you have a big enough of a shot (75 and up) you can thoroughly hear it buddy. Sounds more or less like nothing but high pressured air being released.


As for smelling it.....uhhhh.....I've never smelt it...normally try not to sniff peoples exhausts.

no buddy, this is not FF or biker boyz. When nitrous hits, there is no audilbe hiss that you can hear over somebody going WOT unless you have ultra-sensitive ears tuned to the frequency of hissing air. A 50 shot of nitrous is not any "quiter" than 75 shot for all intensive purposes. So why can you only hear a 75 shot? Before, I go any further... Here's my nitrous experience. I have ran nitrous on street bikes and dsms with wet and direct port setups. I have yet to hear any hissing noise when on the bottle from even inside the car when WOT. Never heard anything on a bike either, and you are damn near strapped to the motor. Perhaps, you may have heard someones poorly installed system that leaked half the nitrous to the atmosphere or something. I bet then you might hear it leaking. But, if you truly believe you heard it or those of you who can smell it coming out the exhaust, than who am I to say you haven't. More power to you.

Also, there is nothing sweet about the smell of nitrous. To begin with, it is odorless in its general state. For automotive purposes, sulfur is added to keep people from inhaling the stuff and getting high. Sulfur stinks and doesn't smell sweet.

When I open my bottle I definatly can hear a hissing noise, but It's not loud enough to hear from outside the car. As far as the nozzle actually spraying, I can't hear mine at all even with the windows down

if you think that you can hear a noise when someone uses the spray, you need to stop watching the fast and the furious... you cant hear it. you can hear a turbo, you can hear a motor, you can hear the car breaking the wind as it goes by, but you cant hear what is essentially a fluid being introduced into the motor. can you hear gas entering the cylinders?! perhaps you hear oil running through your car as well?

once again, the only way you are going to know if a car is running nitrous is one of three ways...
1. you carefully examine the car and check for a bottle, kick switch, arming switch, things like that...
2. you race that car against a very similar car where the race should be dead even, but then notice that around 3rd gear how the car with the nitrous pulls ahead.
3. in some cars with wide open exhauts, right after the run the burning sulfer will smell like rotten eggs if you smell the tail pipe, but this is not always a guaranteed sign and might look rather weird on your part.

basically if someone doesnt want you to know they are running nitrous, you wont know... simple as that.

just dont forget to reinforce your floor panels... they fly out when you use that in a DSM.

and the engine will lock the front tires of that N/A with the T3/T4. BUT after the tires lock because the engine locks it starts running just fine again and you take it for a joy ride.

You cannot tell by smell. If a car is running no cat or has a clogged cat the car smells like sulfer. I have been running a test pipe and no N20 for a year so I know about non N20 smells.
