first off, im very nice on my car. I never launch, and I never drop the clutch. Im shooting for 600whp. The engine is built, fuel system supported, but my drive line is stock. stock trany, t case, diff, drive shaft, axles. I know there going to break. fast. What do i need to support this power? I know ill need a couple built tranys. I plan to buy new stock axles after they start to break(new axles have a lifetime warranty, free replacements!) Will the 4 bolt diff hold up if im nice on it? same with the stock T-case. My engine builder told me a DSM big name builder has run stock t-case, driveshaft, and diff at 700whp for several race seasons without issue. yea, any advice is good!

Sorry in advance for my lack of high power knowledge!

If you want a 600hp dsm, learn to rebuild transmissions. Many people have spent lots of money to realize, they all break anyway. They are all made from factory parts after all, except for a ppg dogbox. Get a trans with a 91-92 gearset, and upgraded, or welded center diff.

A welded diff is okay but if the op ever plans to run the car for anything but a straight line, he'll run into problems with the diff and how fast it'll eat tires cornering.

I mean if you aren't launching the car or drag racing the car then you should be fine on a relatively stock drivetrain. You would need a clutch capable of holding the torque that you will be making, southbends have a pretty good rep for high tq holding and good street manners, transmission wise you could get away with a beefier transmission for third gear pulls and stuff. Driveshaft should be fine as long as you make sure the bearings, and bushings are good to go. You really start breaking driveline stuff by launching on it, and it is worse on a manual car then an automatic car because manuals tend to shock the drivetrain more.

Yepp, no launching. Im running a ACT2600 pp, 6 puck spring act disk and findenza al flywheel. I assume this wont hold long. What exactly is it in a trany that you can beef up? the center diff? cause like donniekak said, there all stock parts. Can I rip apart a stock trany and double sincro it and all that fun stuff thats in built tranys? Anyone have a detailed video or thread describing how to rebuild a transmission? Thanks for the help thus far guys!

The double synchro upgrades are a shifting upgrade. They help the trans shift at high rpms.

The problem with dsm transmissions is the small physical size of the gears. They flat out break. The 91-92 gearset has the strongest 3-4 setup, as your 3-4 hub/slider will explode eventually from a roll with 400 whp.

Then center diff will break when launched. Upgrading to a 4 spider helps, and a welded unit fixes the issue completely. The 5 broken diffs in my garage hampered driveability a lot more than the 1 welded unit that wore my tires a little, and made parking a little more difficult.

Your best bet right now seems to be to call a dsm trans shop, and tell them your goals, and budget. But, be prepared to tear into it yourself eventually.

more good advice! I plan to do it myself. I know transmission break a lot at this power level, so knowing how to do it would be awesome. I checked out TRE's site and I learned a lot there. I plan to shot peen all gears, shafts, and the spider/diff. I guess my biggest goal right now is pulling my trany apart to see how a transmission really works. I learn how things work be pulling them apart.

I forgot to answer one of your other questions, as long as you aren't launching the car your transfercase should be just fine, they are actually pretty stout and have a relatively easy job under normal driving conditions.
