Im not sure this is the right place to ask this.

I want to socket my 95 eprom unit? Well not me personaly but someone in my electornics at my school (i don't trust myself).

My question is, what materials are needed (type of socket, welding material, blah blah blah)?

Can my ecu be socketed and use the stock ecu chip still?

Is there a Vfaq somewhere?
Thanks for all the help!

there will be no welding.

the type of socket you need is the one you buy.

no, you huck the stock eprom chip and replace it with your new one.

A socket is like a plug and play hole... once socketed, you can switch ecus anytime you want.

If you bought a chip, from a good vendor, it should come with a socket. And the proffessional doing the socketing, will have any other tools he needs.

Whole bad phrasology. You'd all get raped at my college. Anyway you need a de-soldering unit, a socket (not sure where to get these, they are pretty standard, just count the pins). Once you remove the solder from all of the pins, use a chip extractor to take the EPROM out. This is not something that can be done with a soldering iron and some pliers. One fell swoop and your ECU is a paperweight.

What else would you need? I'm fairly competent with electronics. I wonder if I could do this myself.

From the info I recieved from all of you, it makes since.
Though let me make sure, so when Im socketing my ecu im just adding a socket not the chip? Like on my mother board on my PC that the Processor goes in?
Now if I order a dsmlink chip, or a dsm keydriver chip do you know if it comes with a socket and the chip? How do you make sure you don't put the chip in wrong?
Since Im on a budget I was going to go with the keydriver chip, but in the future if I decide to get dsmlink, do I have to put a new socket in, or can I just pull the keydriver chip out and drop in the dsmlink chip?

Thanks guys or gals? for all the help!!!

Yes... like your ecu on your motherboard. keydiver chip comes with a socket. There is a notch on one corner of the chip, and a corresponding mark on the board - line it up this way. Pull out keydiver, and pop in dsmlink anytime, same socket.
