hey all
i have found my crank pulley to be seperated (as you can see here http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=113451 )

i just want to know how hard it is to replace the crank pulley.. is it as simple as removing the 4 bolts and finding a way to wedge it off with a pry bar? it will then come off even though it's so close to the body of the car?

also, can i just go to napa and order one there? i've done some searching and decided i want one with the dampener... not a solid pulley.
what might it run me? $100?

thanks a lot everyone

i've got the same problem. i searched for the part on concelli mitsubishi, and all i could find was called a vibration dampener, it's at the same location as where the harmonic balancer is though, and i was wondering if it was the same part? (don't mean to jack the thread, but it's the same part that he's asking about and i'm adding some info :p )

on a 1G its a piece of cake, I know the 2G's are a little more cramped on the drivers side though. I called a dealer, for a crank pulley, $62. I am not sure if the 1g and 2G pulleys are the same, but I think they would be!

heh.. my understanding is that you can't just replace the dampener... you have to replace the entire crank pulley

edit:
whoops, that was to LOC...

That's the same part.

just called the dealer... they say $128 for the crank pulley.... they really know how to rape ya, don't they?

Order from http://www.partznet.com

I got mine from there a month ago for $92 shipped!

It is unbelievably easy to replace.

1. Remove driver's side wheel.
2. Remove lower engine cover splash shield
3. (OPTIONAL) Remove alternator/A/C belts
4. Remove 4 bolts.
5. Remove crank pulley.

Installation is reverse of removal.

I replaced mine in 5 minutes

one quick question... if i have trouble getting the pulley off... which i believe i will.. is this a bad place to spray some WD-40 in order to loosen it up?
thanks :)

got the pulley off....

my damn AC belt broke up my damn timing belt cover... and i don't think supporting the engine and removing an engine mount is really something i care to do... :( :(
local shops don't really care to deal with it either...
'spose i'll have to take it 80 mins away to satan on this one:barf:

Yeah the crank pulley definitely will wreck a timing cover if it gets bad enough.

Depending on how confident you feel there should be no problem in changing the cover yourself. It's not difficult at all, just a bunch of little steps.

Before you take it to satan, maybe you could see if any local DSMer's would be willing to help you out. Anyone who has changed their timing belt should have no problem helping you replace the cover.

This document shows you the steps to removing the cover:

Good Luck!

The dealer wanted $120 for the pulley here also, so I went through Conicelli.

It isn't really hard to change. put a jack under the oil pan and use a block of wood to distribute the weight (or if you have access to an engine hoist, you can use that instead.) Take pressure of the mount, unbolt the mount, and lower the motor just enough to slide the pulley on Put the belts on now!!! They can be a pain with the mount in the way... Jack it back up, replace the mount and your done.
