toronto,
guys, ive tried heat, ive tried pb blaster, if i could remove these particular bolts with pure force i would but there brittle.
i want to remove my rear bumper,
is there a good way to use a drill or something to back them out, i need a little more detail and help.
thanks

i hope ya aint heeting the bolt itself up. heet expands metal , and that would only makeit tighter.. ya heet up the nut or w/e its threaded into.

LOL, i am doing that, but i figured it would expand the metal, therefore expanding the area it was threaded into, then when it cooled, there would be more of a space, therefore leaving it looser.

I am about to attack my 90 talon rear bumper and facia to rebuild the rusted lparts inside. When I did the front I drilled out bolts and re- tapped the holes to accept stainless bolts on re-instalation. I feel your pain.

how do you drill out a bolt though?
juss drill through the centre, and then gi in reverse and it comes out?

Heat is your friend, so is PB Blaster. If this does not work:
A: Get a punch and a hammer. Hammer the punch near the edge of the bolt/broken stud/etc. Tap the punch lightly with a hammer and this should help it to yield.
B: If that doesnt work, grab the drill!

Up from the Bottom and Down from the top, After you pull out the tail lights. The drill removes what is left of the bolts after you snap tham off with a wrench trying to remove them:thumb:

Probably the easiest method in this case is just the use pure force. If the head breaks off the bolt then it breaks. Once you have the bumper off then just use Channel locks or aligator wrench and unscrew them from using bottom protruding threads.

if your gonna use brute force, try spraying some wd-40 around the bolt. alot of times that'll help with the rust situation and i'll come off. if it breaks it breaks and you can drill it out. sounds like you'd want to replace the bolts anyway, since they're so rusted.

ok i understand that i'll have to drill them out, but could someone give me a basic rundown on how to drill them out.
is there a certain way? or do you juss drill and and reverse it out?

pretty much, you drill through the bolt (make sure you don't drill into the metal around the bolt, unless your not going to be using it any more.) this weakens the structure of the bolt and it usually breaks, or you can break it out yourself. the bolt is destroyed, obviously. Just a little warning, use wd-40, or something, while you drill (spray some, drill some spray some, etc..) so you don't wear out your bits as easily and to cool off the metal some. Drills make lots of heat :)

Well said, but make sure your bits aren't dull to being with or the bit will slip easily, drilling out bolts can be a bi***!

Drilling out broken bolts, Just the term can sound vague. In actuality you are drilling through the rusted bolt shank. That leaves (If you are a good aim) just the rusty threads in the hole. Take a tap and rethread the hole with proper threads to insert another new fastener. Just another note no one can drill the exact center of all the bolts you will miss one or more. Just rethread and push onward.
