Jack the rear end up as high as you can (access to the pump is underneath the car)...
Disconnect the power connector...
Disconnect the fuel line (hard lines) coming from the tank...
Lower the gas tank just enought by losening the gas tank strap (dont unbolt it all the way)...
Take philips screws out (5 or 6 I forgot) ...
Undo the allen bolt under the gas tank holding the fuel pump assembly to the tank (this means you have to drain the gas completely out of the tank)...
Pull the whole assembly out of the tank...
Replace the pump...
Put the whole unit back in...

Everything should be self explanatory once you look under your car.

I changed mine infront of the house without a jack :|

Make sure you have something ready to drain the gas in, Because the drain bolt on the bottom you hafto take out because it holds the pump unit in.

The little screws are a pain to get, Mine were rusted, I used two cans of pb blast on them and go each one out with vice grips. I didnt jack the car up, I didnt lower the tank or anything. Just drained the gas, (In buckets and all over the ground, Full tank :( ) and then did what I just said. Out and in, It's easy once you get under there.

One thing to add. Make sure you soak everything with PB Blaster at least once a day for a week or so before doing this. I soaked mine for almost two weeks before hand and everything came off squeeky clean. Took about 1/2 hour total to swap.

I just took a rag and soaked it in PB blaster...wrapped it around the fuel connections....zip tied it at either end.....got down on the ground once a day for a week shooting right at the rag......I wonder what the neighbors thought when they seen me doing that everyday right after work in my driveway.....(damn he must have wasps under there or something?)...but it got the connections apart :thumb:

1g fwds are the worst, I had to change mine twice, I however didnt have to drop the tank or anything.

The instructions above cover just about everything I encountered. I'll mention that the fill neck must have a screen in it because I couldn't syphon gas out that way. I had to drain the gas into buckets which was messy. I had just filled up 2miles prior to changing the pump.

o.k thanks all for the tips....I will make sure to lube those bolts for a week or 2 before....
This is probably the only thing I havent done on these cars...and its looking to be quite the job.....!!!
