I've been doing some work on my car for the past couple weeks and if I leave negative on the battery longer than overnight it goes dead. It's a very new battery and I'm guessing this short killed my other battery.

It's worth noting that I just redrilled the alternator bolts because it was crooked. I also just installed an safc. The problems arised before any of this though, I think. Maybe not as severe (I drove it multiple times per day so that could have kept it from going dead)

right now I have 2 of my gauges hooked up to on headlight switched power (accidentally) from by the cigarette lighter.

Anything I can check?

UPDATE: used test light (on neg terminal and neg cables) and it lit up for both of the negative cables. I read that alternators can go bad and ground themselves when they shouldn't. How would I test this? Thanks in advance
