hey guys, is there a safe way to empty the freon? or a kit i can buy to empty it? I'm removing the system and my car is apart in my garage so taking it to a garage to have someone empty it is out of the question unfortunately.

I appreciate the help

Thanks

You need a recovery tank to do it safely. You could find a shop near by that has one and ask them to evacuate it for you. But since you say you can't I don't know might have to buy one or borrow if you have any mechanic friends. Don't forget once you remove the freon and if you plan to recharge it you need to put a vaccum on the system for a while to get all the air out, this is very impotent if you want your recharge to last and be as cold as possible!

Just a recovery unit and tank with appropriate hoses/guages. But "most people" just depressurize the system with a screw driver and rag. Not recommended and is dangerous!

Hence not recommended. With no recovery unit, tank,hoses/guages he is kind of low on choices. Even with appropriate equipment caution still needs to be taken.

There is really no good way around it. You need to hook it up to a machine. You can buy gauges and a recovery tank with some type of condenser, but you're looking at 150+.
Here you go haha!

It's against Federal law (in the US) to let that be release into the air. And buy the time you buy all the tools to do that, you could have had a shop do it. I think Firestone (again, in the US) charges around $130 for a flush and refill with dye to find leaks.

If you do do it yourself, please do it responsibly, and find a location to take the old freon and dispose of it properly. I don't know how Canada is with house hold waste, but there could be a HHW (house hold waste) event/location near you to take it to.

He said impotent!!!!
All jokes aside releasing the Freon in your garage can kill you, besides the fact of being against Federal law in this country at least as stated above on numerous occasions. If it rolls can you trailer it? or can you finish the car with the system in and take it to a shop to get it removed after? Just options.

Crack the pipe and run.

Like it really matters. Saying that matters is as silly as banning two strokes. Like kids out in the yard on their dirt bikes compare to this shit

This is the best idea yet unless there's really something stopping you from finishing whatever you're doing before taking it to a shop to have it properly serviced. If you don't have the tools to properly evacuate, pull a vacuum, and then refill, just take it somewhere. It's a hell of a lot easier and you know it's done right.

No real options either have someone that knows what their doing recover the system or figure out how to do your project with out opening the system

Millions of people dye everyday, does that make murder Ok? Or it's only Ok if you don't get caught? Just checkin'...

I'm in the same boat, I need to repaint the firewall. I'm getting the car running, drive to a shop and get the A/C system emptied.
