how to adjust the timing in a 2g

I am having an issue with my 2g, it will crank over but will not start. I have checked the fuel pump and that is pumping gas. I was getting reading to check and see if maybe it was one og the coil packs and I noticed that the cam gear marks are not lining up with each other, so I am assuming that this would cause the car not to start,. So how do I get those marks to line up again? Thanks for any help.

You need to rotate the crank pulley till its mark lines up. Then check the cam gears and see if those marks are on. Number 1 piston should be at tdc and cam dowels should be facing up or 12 o'clock position.

AT the risk of sounding dumb(not dumb just starting to learn how to do this on my own instead of sending it to a mechanic all the time) am I gonna have to pull the motor out or is it easily asseable?

Pull the #1 plug and put a long screw driver in there. Rotate crank until it's at tdc. Cam marks should line up. If not rotate another turn to tdc.

You can do it with the motor in the car. You will need to drop the driver side motor mount to get all the access you need. This is if you need to take the belt off and fix the timing.

^^He doesn't need to take the motor mount off to check timing (just didn't want to confuse him) No dumb ? Here bro, that's why we are all here to help. Just take your time do some research and learn the 4g63 motor in and out. This will help you a ton in the future of owning a dsm. If your timing is off you may have bent valves and will need alittle more to fix than a new timing belt kit. Take it one step at a time, check all fuses and relays, check sensors especially cam and crank, verify timing, loose conections and so on.

the crank pulley has a mark just put it to tdc and check the cam gears. no need to do the screw driver trick or taking stuff off.

Just to staryt from the begining, I had a new 2.3 stroker motor put in with my stock head on it(just until I can upgrade the head) pick the car and drove it home, onthe way home my car started spitting and sruttering and stalling out, so I thought( because the mechanic said that the car was running rich) that it was a tuning issue and I started to adjust with an afc neo. Well after messing with for a day and not getting any where with it I started liiking eldewhere for a problem and found that one of the intercooler popes was not hooked up anymore so I hooked the pipe back up, and now the car wont start. I have checked a few things out like the fuel filter and fuel pump and both of those are good. I checked the coil packs and all but one are reading above ten and one is reading way below like at 1 I think I might recheck those just to make sure I checked them right. At this point is when I noticed that the markd on the cam gears were not lining up.

How do I check the cam and crank sensors?
