I've been trying to figure this out by searching on this site, and others but could somebody tell me how to adjust the base timing on a 6 bolt block with a 2G head? I have the 1G cam angle sensor on the 2G head, with the special cord for the ECU. My friend told me your supposed to "move it while its running, to adjust base timing" so that the timing is more "dead on". Is this true? how should i go about moving the sensor?

The ECU expects to see 5* ignition timing. However having a 1g CAS it's now adjustable. Unless you have logging software to monitor your engines health, keep it at 5* using a timing light.

Engine Timing

Just bolting up the CAS without setting it up could have you running any sort of timing so you really need to set it with a light when you install it for proper performance.

Is there an actual timing light you can buy now or do you use a strobe light?

You use a timing light so it will flash when #1 cylinder is at TDC. You point the light at the crank pulley and it will show you what your timing is.

The black top and green top 1g CAS are basically the same thing. Just 2 different style pick ups. One is not better than the other. It has been reported that the black top helps a little better with the random misfire codes associated with a 6 bolt swap in a 2g however.

But anyway, you need a timing light to set your CAS.

now that I have the advanced actron light in hand, I understand how it hooks up to the car, but just trying to clarify how this is done: you point the light at the crank pulley while the engines in idle, and something is supposed to line up, and if not adjust the CAS as needed?

My timing cover is still not on my engine is that good or bad? I think I actualy might need to get a new one because a peice broke of my cover I have sitting in my garage. I mostly just don't understand how that tab really works, the gun sees the tab?

Everything you need to set base timing or to whatever degree needed. This is a v8 motor but will be the same exact steps. You'll need your lower timing belt cover to see the timing degree mark.

You could remove the plate to attach the clamp to the connection to the plug or try attaching it to the coil itself. May take a few tries but from what I found from GOOGLE it will pick it up.
