How much will the Auto tranny hold???

First of all an Automatic GSX is 205HP stock (manual is 210hp) and he has enough mods (from what I read)to put out 250. Were only talking another 45hp.

The T-25 is only capable of 270HP max...

205HP is not at the wheels. I am talking at the wheels like what everyone talks about when it comes to HP. With an automatic we loose like 30% power. I argued the fact because I did not know he was running n2o. Most people do not spray until they get more fuel mods. You can argue all you want, but I have been an auto guy for sometime. My 95 GS-T is running a Stroker 2.3 with currently a 20G, DSMlink, race auto tranny, 1G intake, 1G head, etc. A stock 2G auto is around 165 at the wheels. I just say take it to the dyno as everyone can claim what they have at the wheels. It's like when you go buy a turbo from a company that they say they took it with a regular weight 2G and ran a 11.5 without spraying. The odds are you will not gonna come close to that. Go onto DSMtalk and you will find a forum for auto's that has everything you can find. There is a small number of auto's faster than 12.5. When all said and done a year from now or however long it takes you to get all the mods you want you will realize that 400HP at the wheels is a much more difficult task then most people think in an auto. Lastly do not waste your time on a 16G. If you want a mild upgrade go to a FP Big 28 or jump to a 20G. It's very rare to get out of the 13's with a 16G unless you spray.

Hey thanks for the info invadergst! I was actually looking into the big 28
after reading a few post about turbo's here.

I would like to learn more about your A/T set up..

Also whats your best 1/4 mile time?

You can private mail me this info if you want.

How much of an improvement did you see going to a race tranny? Is this the original tranny with race parts added? (high stall torque converter and reprgarmmed chip?)

I am also interested. I hang with a bunch of small block chev folks, and I have a 2002 Camaro Z28 too, and I've always been told that auto is the way to go for drag racing. I've had my GSX for about 4 months now, and run mid 13s with bolt ons and a little spray. I'm gonna go big with a 60-1 or something, but I'm interested in what all is needed to run big boost with a big turbo and not break your tranny all to sh!t.:thumb: The only supporting mods I'm lacking are injectors, FMIC, and the turbo itself. Oh yeah, and a better BOV than a 1G.

I don't have any 1/4 miles to brag about yet. Basically I have had a lot of problems last season where my car was never running up to par. It's pretty close to be completed this off season. Take my advice do everything in the winter and have your car tuned and ready for the spring. As with DSM's something's bound to take a dump. We can make em fast, but keeping them reliable is a whole different story. Auto's are better for drag racing if enough supported mods were there. Your best buy when you start upgrading is a DSMlink. For auto's it retains the timing through shifts. Complete datalogger and you can change the timing from a laptop. it takes care of your fuel management also. Once you go bigger in injectors you will need this or an AFC. For the money skip the AFC and go to the DSMlink. I currently run a 20G and need to get a bigger turbo since my stroker spools the 20G like a T-25 now. My tranny is upgraded internals, shift kit, high stall TC, and end clutch. There's not much else left to do. If you plan on running a Big 28 all you need is 550's, fuel management, and Walbro 255 fuel pump. Going 20G or better you need at least 660's, AFPR, etc. Basically I have everything needed except I have yet to upgrade my cams. I have even swapped to 1G intake manifold, and 1G ported head. There is a lot more stuff you need than you think when you get into it. I would not do more than a 75 shot on your stock engine. stock rods will snap.

I see your using a manual boost control. How do you have it connected?
I have a rubber tubing running from the waste gate actuator to the bottom side of the MBC. From there the rubber tubing continues to a "T" connector. From each sid of the Tc connector, run tubing to the BOV and to the intake. Then u can control your boost level by the turn of a knob. I'm sure they have a pictorial install on www.vfaq.com. Try looking there.

Whats up fellas. I have a 97 tsi a/t & love it. 5hp diff is no big deal. Hell 10hp is a diff in drivers. Anyway. i've read up & have done alot of research on these a/t. if they are in good shape to begin with, they can handle alot of power. i talk to a guy on dsm talk that has a 97 tsi awd a/t & he is running 11.90's. All he has done to his trans is a shift kit & end clutch kit. Well he ran 12.0's just w/ that. Had a big 16g ported but not clipped. Now he has a FP green & couldnt come out of the hole so he put a high stall converter in. Oh he also upgraded from the stock trans cooler to a b&m unit & he uses b&m trick shift trans fluid.
