I was wondering how much smoke a turbo on its way out could cause? I have suspected my turbo is going out due to its erratic behavior for the past few weeks as well as some smoke from the tail pipe. I drove it today for the first time in a few days and it was blowing out huge clouds of smoke when i take off as well as right after i engage a gear or as the boost would start to come on. I am just wondering if my suspicions sound correct or if this could be another problem? Also there is a slight smell of sulfur it seems coming from the tail pipe as well (don't know if this is normal?). Anyway guys, thanks for the help in advance and i look forward to getting back on the road.

Check the turbo for shaft play. Also look for fresh pools of oil in the LICP. If the turbo is on its way out, park the car until you replace the turbo. If you let it go, the thrust bearing will grenade and you'll have those pieces in your oil pan. Also, when it fails, you'll pump a lot of oil into your intake and/or exhaust in a very short period of time...oil you want in your motor. And you don't want to run boat loads of oil through the motor.
