Obviously the GSX would be the GST if they were stock or had the same exact mods.

But how much faster/more power would it take for the GST to beat a GSX due to the traction difference?

Also maybe factor in a limited slip for the GST. Anyone have opinions on this?

Seems like a question that has some variables awd not more power but traction, also a bit heavier than the gst, are you buying one or the other?

Or would the added weight and extra drivetrain of the GSX slow it down enough to make a difference?

Sorry posted that before I saw your post. I just bought a 92 TSI FWD, but have been finding some AWD's for the same price(now that i already bought a FWD). Just figuring out if the switch would be worth it, and also just kinda curious.

So lets just say a stock GSX vs a stock GST with the same driver. Who would win?

Im also not looking to make a huge build, maybe around 300 hp

some one told me on the highway the gst's would be quicker because of the lighter weight and more power going to front wheels instead of being transferred to the rears, but the usual races here in ny are light to light and around bendy twisty roads so gsx would be ultimate :thumb:

wish i had a gsx :(

Thet 2g's are rated at the same power level. But due to drivetrain loss the gsx will have less power but more traction.

So while driving down the road, the gst should be a bit quicker.
But from a stop the gsx is gonna come off the line alot harder, because it has better traction.

So it depends on what your using it for.Daily driving in warm climates, the gst will be just fine. But then again the gsx will handle alot better through curves and so forth.

I am pretty sure from the factory mitsubishi actually made the gsx with like 5 or 10 more hp due to the weight difference. Im not sure if its like that on 2nd gen but I think it os for 1st gen. Ie tad bit bigger injectors? Someone probably knows a little bit more thatn me tho.

The difference between the 1g power is auto vs manual.Cams, turbo, injectors, ecu, trans were all different compared to the 2g.

So 1g 5 speeds are rated at 200hp.The auto's put down less power, but the tranny does make up with the shifting.

If you put a stock 1g auto vs manual. They should be pretty damm neck and neck.

^^^ this.
They have the same power. Stock for stock, the gsx would get off the line faster, but a gst would accelerate slightly faster because its lighter. As everyone else said, depends what you will use it for.

The Gsx won't give you torque steer either, so not only will you launch harder, but straighter.

The first time I down shifted to third and slammed the throttle down to pass in my old GST - the torque steer scared the crap out of me!

Also remember its not always what you have but knowing how to use it or make it work harder than the next person. Depends on if your more concerned about a digg or a roll. Plenty of people are still happy with fwd over awd and make what they have work, follow your gut and do whats going to make you happier in the end.

Yea AWD for life. FWD are nice for up keep, and less weight. But the awd feels so much better with the power. I personally have own fwd turbo, awd turbo, and rwd supercharged and my gsx just pulls so hard that its unbelievable. If your gonna just drive around and have a quick street car then you could do a GST, But if you want great power control then go with the GSX.

AWD is going to be the best bet for almost all cases. And Johng96gst, AWD cars are not for ppl who can't launch. Its a matter of traction. No matter how good of a driver you are, you can't overcome some traction issue with a FWD. To be 100% truthful, RWD is the most ideal just based on the laws of physics.

To the OP, I am surprised that no one has said this yet. But Mitsubishi overcame the weight difference not buy HP, but by gearing. AWD gearset is different the FWD.

No, I know its a traction thing. I agree anything with awd is gonna be a monster off the line. But with a good limited slip and V3 tuning ability it has helped fwd come out of the whole alot better. Obviously still no match for an awd but someone has to represent.
