I have a 1g 6bolt 4g63nt shortblock. Stock pistons rods crank. I have a 1g turbo head with hks 272 cams sheetmetal intake large fmic hks bov and a 50trim turbo. What amt of boost is the engine gonna be able to handle. Obviously the performance partsw are gonan exceed tha power that the engine can handle BUt i wanted to know what my limitations are. I know this is a crazy situation but hunmor me and please dont give my the "you are a idiot" treatment. thanks.

Boost isn't the problem with turboing a n/t engine, detonation is. There isn't much distance between the crown of the piston and the top ring, so a good amount of it could cause the piston to break around there. Your tuning would have to be dead on, tilting towards the conservative side to prevent detonation. With the higher compression ratio, you won't need to run as much boost as a turbo'd engine, but you really need to keep an eye on the knock sensor and avoid detonation at all costs.

yeah what he said.
eventually your car will start smoking and burning oil than you just get a turbo block. but for now you can enjoy what you got.

a full turbo block can be found for about 200. just be patient and do it right once.

A simple swap over to some stock 1g pistons would make that block much much stronger. I currently run an nt block with the turbo pistons and all the necessary externals of course, but the actual block and crank are from a nt 6 bolt. The rods are the same between the two, but since I had a set of 6 bolt pistons I wasn't going to waste my time switching the pistons around when I could just drop the others into the motor with a new set of bearings.

i am buying a 1g n/t eclipse and everthing is stock on it, but i have a junked tsi awd talon so i have the exhaust manifold, cams and anything i need from it. the pistons are junk i could possibly tear the engine apart and clean up the block i may need to bore it tho because it is rusted solid so id rather not use this block i have an evo3 16g turbo i was going to put in my turbo 1.8 but it runs find with a 14b and i dont think id make near as much power as i would with this 1g n/t im gonna get because the dohc . but anyways so what would u suggest i set my boost at? ill have it tuned correct and i have the timing a little on the safe side and run premium gas. but what other did i miss?
