How long should it take to run air through system?

I just got done making a boost leak tester, and using a valve stem. I have a 10 gallon air tank. I sat there for about 10 mins pushing air into the system, and the boost gauge never went up. I lost about 3 lbs from the air tank.

Kind of getting impatient with this. Am I doing something wrong?

Hose > PVC cap > drilled hole in the middle and tightly put valve stem in.
 
Got a pic of it, or a pic with it installed? You also need to set the motor at 40* (I believe) tbdc to make sure the intake valves are closed. Otherwise the air just goes out the exhaust because valves are open...

I'm not 100% that the degree on the crank is right, google "dsm how to blt" and it will give you the degree.

Edit, fixed for correct degree.

I just have an airtank, no motor, so the air comes out quite slow. Also, not sure how to move my valves?

Here you go... its 40* to close all intake valves.

Edit... also, its BEST to test the motor and intercooler piping seperate... pop it off at the throttle body elbow and test there. Then cap off the intercooler piping and test the pipes/couplers. Much easier and easier to locate small leaks.


Edit again.... he is saying, after you fill the system it should take about 30 seconds to slowly bleed out of the pipes. In a perfect world the air would just stay there all day, but it does bleed out through piston rings into the block (if valves are open, pcv system etc)

Typically you should hope for a little better than a 1:1 second per pound leak down... like 15 psi takes 20 seconds to bleed out, you're good. So on and so forth.

Thanks for all the info man, I really appreciate it. Last question. Been lookin around, but I cant find out how to rotate the crank? This may be a stupid question, but I have never tried to do it!!

Easy way, bump the starter:p

There is also an access plug in the wheel well to insert a tool for crank shaft rotation, you can rotate from the cam gears but it's not recommended. If you decide to do it from the cam gears use both nuts and remove the spark plugs.

Edit: Be sure to rotate clockwise only.
 
Jack up driver side, lay under the car and look where your oil filter is, the big pulley at the bottom of the motor just back from the filter ( maybe 5-6" diameter) is the crank pulley. And yes, only rotate it clockwise, if you crank it past where you want it then do another go around
