So how do I get my lifters full of oil after starting? Can I drive it and have them fill as I'm driving, or do I have to wait?

I started it up, they kept ticking. I turned off the engine becuase the power steering pump oring went out and leaking onto the alternator heavily. So I didn't runt it that long, but still I did rev it for a bit and etc but they were still loud.

Yes I did prime them, yes they are the revised lifters (I had used them before, they were quiet). Yes I did use the paperclip method. The head sat for a while before being started, 2 weeks.

I just want to have an idea of what to expect and how to get them filled, like how long to rev, at what rpm and when to start driiving it (initial test drive after putting the head back on).

When I did the cams in my car I just bled them slapped them in then primed them and let it run a few minutes then took it for a drive. They shut up in a few minutes I dont know if thats bad but I did it and it worked fine for me.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the feedback. Sounds like it's normal for them to be noisy until after you drive it for a bit.

Someone else I talked to about engines that is not familiar with DSM's thought they should quite down faster, like within a minute or 2 of startup.

Not sure why he thought that; I wonder if other types of lifters fill up or quite down faster than ours, and maybe it just depends on the style?

When you put the head back on did you put them in after?

if you put them in the head pumped up with the head off and let them bleed down in the head overnight before putting the head back on they won't tick at all. that's what I've always done if I had the time so I didn't have to deal with it

When I changed my cams, I let it sit overnight, cranked it over for oil pressure with no issues.
In the past with rebuilt heads, it would take some minutes at first startup for them to get quiet.

I've always let them soak in oil for part of a day then like I said before let them bleed down on their own over night... . never heard a singal tick that way

Now if I was just swapping cams out I would NEVER install them pumped up and would just prime the oil pump up and deal with the tick
