I could not turn mine with my hand. I had to use a socket/ratchet. Is this normal?

so i should be able to turn this sprocket with my hand? What do you think is wrong?

It would depend on your grip I guess :D how did the B Tbelt look? Was it badly worn out and stretchet or was it pretty much like your main t-belt? The sprocket should be fairly easy to turn, more like oil pump, never anything like crankshaft. There's really nothing to it, rubber seal and bearings... Was your engine rebuilt before? I'd search the net for balance shaft removal or eclipse balance shaft kit and look at pictures to see what it looks like inside.

Then something is really wrong, new belt will snap again. Sounds like you need to dig deeper into your engine and see what's up. When that belt snaps and makes its way into main t-belt you'll need to do some serious repairs... I'm thinking maybe something happened to a bearing? Cracked or something? Take off the oil pan and look inside...
