St. Thomas,
i am planning on taking the car to the track tomarrow for the first time but was wondering before i do, what is the max speed i should take 3rd gear to.
thanks.

PS: if you could respond in KM/H that would be great but if not i'll go look at my speedo.

Brody :dsm:

I revved my car to around 7800 on the dyno in 3rd and the car got up to like 110mph. I never am going that fast though in 3rd when i'm at the track.

Matt (dsmtrance) was still in 3rd when he trapped 120 in the 1/4 mile, but his limiter is 9000rpm. If yours is stock, like mine with the stock turbo, you could efficiently get about 90-95.

I don't know if your car has any mods since you profile is blank, but on a stock car you will get the best times from leaving it in 3rd until the run is finished. If your trap speeds go much over 95 mph, then you could try shifting into 4th at 6500 rpm. A car with a big turbo and upgraded cams can hold 3rd gear much higher.

So? What are your mods?

ported turbo, forged bottom end, balanced, blueprinted, MBC, 18psi, msd ignition, custom spark plug wires, air can modified, modified MAF sensor bypass, high pressure fuel pump, cylinder head 1 flowed and ported, ported intake and exhaust on cyl. 1,2 and 3, ported cyl 4 and flowed, ported exhaust, R&R pistons, bored and honed block, centreforce clutch thats all i can think of as of right now

6750 is what i shifted at... but I wouldn't trust that because I only ran 13.1 :\

I got well into 4th gear though before I let off. [stock gearing]

Don't pay attention to what speed you are travelling, shift when the engine stops making power. It's pointless to take it beyond that.

Regards,

agreed even on the t25 I consistantly ran better times by leaving it in 3rd. Granted the car pulled better once I shiftyed to 4th, but the time it takes to shift and time get the pedal down doesnt help AT ALL.

smell what?

you don't believe me? want me to take some photos of the receipts? because i gladly will.
thats not even close to all but thats all that would really matter performance wise

Yes, I would like to see receipts. Unless the language barrier prohibits you from saying what you really mean, your description of mods sounds a little .......wierd?

here's my receipts
sorry about the quality, i had to take the pics with the flash off.

Good Lord, I would hate to see the total on that bill, I imagine they took you to the cleaners? I could be wrong, but it appears that they charged you for every nut and bolt. I am glad that I did my own work. It appears there was a language barrier, because I have never heard of them trying to get so specific in head work. Most shops in the US, just say port and polish and thats it, not port and flow 1,2 and 3 and then port cylinder 4? Out of curiousity, how much in US dollars did that cost...if you don't mind sharing.

Performance wise, it apperas you have a "stock car". The porting, forged pistons and other minor stuff will not help you too much performance wise without some sort of way to increase power.

ummm in US dollars maybe around 5 or 6 grand (9 canadian)
i 've also got MBC @ 16 psi, msd ignition, ported turbo, centerforce clutch, upgraded fuel pump.

in the works are a 3" exhaust, 550 injectors, and boost will be raised to 21PSI.

OMG 5 or 6 grand!! I can't begin to list the parts you could have for that. Have you checked Magnus's website? They have complete race motors for thousands less!!! read specs below

"Magnus Custom Forged pistons 9:1 compression, 1g Big rods, balanced and blueprinted to within .5 grams. Rotating bottom end. The Magnus Stage 2 head features stock valvetrain with a light port job. It comes with a mirror finish to ensure excellent sealing quality."

And $9000 canadian dollars is a #### hair under $7000 US dollars. Dude, you got boned...don't go back there.

The gearing in your FWD will let you get up arond the 110 area. The AWD guys are going to be in 4th before that happens.

As for the leaving it in 3rd for the FWD, that is my suggestion aswell. The shift will slow you down at the end. I ahve experience with BOTH trans in a FWD car. Granted it is a 2G, but you can get the jist of it.
