How do I reset the check engine light?

Sorry this sounds silly...but I need to do this myself before I get my car inspected again. :-(

take out the bulb

Pull the ground wire off the battery and let it sit there for a sec so it can reset. that will do it.

Your best and only bet is to have somebody reset it with an OBD code reader WHILE the engine is running. In that way, you can have no CEL until you restart your car.

The resetting method by taking out the battery will cause the CEL to come back right after you turn on the ignition.

no it won't, unless you have a 0bd2 to an obd1 conversion, the engine computer will reset, it will come back on but not for a while, best thing to do is to go get the code on the check engine light and why its on

Yeah, the check engine light will not come on for no reason, something is causing it. Sometimes its due to a mod but even then I would take the time to figure out whats triggering it. The battery method or the other method stated will still produce the same results if there is a problem - if nothing is wrong it will go off with either method(but it probably shouldnt have been on in the first place).

like they said... get a OBD2 diagnostics tool like pocketlogger, that way you can read the problem code and fix the problem instead of ignoring it
