all i can find is stuff about certain parts of the boost leak test but no direct step by step instructions on HOW TO DO it and what you need.... can somebody reply a link to a page that has directions on a boost leak test?

IC Pipe Tester

I also posted this in your other thread. For future reference, don't just create new threads willy nilly. Stick with the one you had :) AT LEAST search first, there have been MANY, MANY threads on this topic.

Measure your turbo inlet first, I believe your 14B has a 2" inlet. I use a spray bottle of soap & water and just spray around all the connectors. Also spray around your injectors. Sounds to me like you may have leaking injector seals.

^^^ how could you possibly know where his leak is, based on the information he gave us?

In your other thread, I noticed that you said that your BISS screw did nothing when you tried to adjust it. I had a similar problem to that but replaceing the o-ring helped me. Now when I twist it just a quarter of a turn it can effect my RPM by 50-100 rpm. Something deffinetely seems out of place.

I went to ACE hardware and bought a rubber coupler and then bought a PVC cap and 2 automotive clamps. one is used to hold the PVC cap in place the other for the test end. I then bought a tire stem with the valves and drilled a hold for it to fit in. Once you tighten down on the Cap really well and attach it to your turbo, use something to pressurize your system. Watch you boost gauge, You should be able to host the pressure for a while. If you don't hold pressure remove the tester from the turbo and attach it to the throttle body and work backwards. This will help to eliminate the tubing and intercooler in case they are leaking and can help diagnose the rest of the system as you work back towards the turbo again. Soapy water in a spray bottle will help you to identify small leaks. Good luck

i did search and all i could find was threads about boost leaks and testing but no threads with step by step directions on how to do it...im sure there is one but i didnt feel like looking through a laundry list of threads when i could make my own and get a quick answer.....it seams everybody is very touchy about making new threads on this site... i dont see the point when you litterally have thousands of threads, whats one more gonna hurt?

and he didnt say he knew where my leak is he said it could possably be my injector seals or rings or whatever..... i want all the advice i can get cause i know nothing about these cars and almost nothing about cars in general.... so please dont discourage people when there just trying to give suggestions and help me out:nono:

yeah im letting the 2 part epoxy dry overnight that i have on the valve stem screwd into the cap..... tomorrow morning i will do the boost leak test and ill also connect to the TB like you said..... if that doesnt work im gonna move on to getting a multimeter gauge and testing all my sensors...... and i guess if that doesnt work ill move on to the fuel injectors....

thanks for the help guys i will post if i get the problem figured out

it does seem like i can smell fuel when the car is running

and i also replaced the O ring under the idle screw but that didnt change a thing..... i can put that idle screw where ever i want it and it doesnt effect the idle or running of the car

Because if every new person on here created 10 new threads about the same subject, instead of searching, we'd have a lot of crap on here with the same information. It's not hard to use the search feature, and you might have to look through more than 4 threads to get an answer. But this is how you learn stuff.

Try spraying soapy water while doing a boost leak test. This will help you 'see' the leaks, since they'll bubble.

Where do you smell fuel? Do you have a cat? If not, your fuel smell will increase.

ok i will keep my post limited and search more for now on before posting...

yes i have a cat everything and i mean everything is completely stock but it has exhaust leaks and im sure the cat is worn out or bad...

also when having my head under the hood while the car is running my eyes start burning bad like bad emissions or something?...idk just thought i would menchin that

Well if your injector seals are bad, they will show up during a boost leak test. When you pressurize from the TB, spray EVERYTHING!!!! listen for leaks and watch closly. My injecotr seals were all leaking and it wasn;t easy to tell without the soapy water, But keep an eye out for everywhere that air can pass through to the head. Depending on the amount of pressure loss you get during the BLT, will determine the size leak if you have one at all. I know I have a very small one at the throttle body shaft seals and just don;t have the time to deal with it yet. There is a list on here somewhere that literally lists EVERYTHIG a BLT can test for. I will see if I can find it for you.

In a stock vehicle in perfect working order, the following components will have to withstand boost:

Compressor housing
Compressor/j-pipe gasket (1g)
J-pipe (1g)
J-pipe/Lower intercooler pipe (LICP) coupler (1g)
Compressor/LICP coupler (2g)
Boost controller vaccuum lines (all of them)
Boost controller tee fitting
Boost control solenoid (BCS)
LICP
LICP/Intercooler coupler
Intercooler
Intercooler/Upper intercooler pipe (UICP) coupler
UICP (both sections)
Coupler between UICP sections
TBV/BOV gasket (1g)/coupler (2g)
BOV valve
Upper and center chamber of the TBV/BOV
TBV/BOV vaccuum line
UICP/throttle body elbow coupler
Throttle body (TB) elbow
TB elbow/TB gasket
TB
BISS o-ring
TB throttle shaft seals
TB/intake manifold (IM) gasket
IM
FPR vaccuum line
PCV valve vaccuum line
PCV valve (intake manifold end of the valve)
(other TB vaccuum lines...someone fill this in)
IM/Head gasket
Intake ports (in the head)
Injector seals/insulators
Intake valve stem seals
Intake valves
Head gasket
Cylinders
Piston rings
Piston crowns
Spark plug head
Spark plug crush washer
Exhaust valves

If anything before "Intake valves" above is leaking, that's a boost leak

Also for a step by step of how to perform the boost leak test

checkout : IC Pipe TesterThis is from vfaq. Search here as well and then if you don't understand something come to us and ask.

AND: Boostpro.net tester (not the tester itself but the instructions are the same). This came from the tech archives forum.
